What is Complete a Quick Survey to Continue?
"Please complete a quick survey to continue" is a ransomware infection that locks computer users' desktops. This is an attempt to coerce users into completing online surveys in order to unlock their computers.
Ransomware infections of this type are relatively recent - previous variants exploited the names of authorities such as the FBI, Internet Crime Complaint Center, Interpol, etc. and demanded payment of bogus fines for supposed law violations. This variant, however, encourages users to complete online surveys.
Other known variants of this ransomware use similar tactics, including the message "Complete an offer below to unlock your desktop". PC users should not fall for such trickery or complete any offers.
Here's another variant of this survey ransomware infection (called "FileiceRansomware"):
Whilst it is unclear whether the offers presented by these messages are legitimate, the online surveys commonly request users to divulge their personal information (email, telephone number, address, etc.), or encourage them to subscribe to costly mobile services. Computer users should never divulge their personal information, since this may lead to identity theft.
If your computer screen is locked with a message of this type (screenshot below), your PC is infected with a ransomware virus. The correct way to deal with this, is to not participate in any surveys and eliminate it from your computer. These screen lockers are developed by cyber criminals with the sole purpose to steal money and personal information from unsuspecting PC users.
