Polizja Biuro Służby Kryminalnej Virus

Also Known As: Biuro Służby Kryminalnej Ransomware
Damage level: Severe

What is Policja (Polizja) Biuro Służby Kryminalnej?

The Polizja. Biuro Służby Kryminalnej message, "UWAGA! Pański osobisty komputer został zablokowany ze wzslędów bezpieczeństwa z wskazanych niżej przyczyn", blocks computer screens and demands payment of a 500 PLN fine for alleged law violations (including watching child pornography, distributing copyrighted content, etc.) This is a scam.

The message is not sent by legitimate authorities from Poland; it is created by cyber criminals in the hope that unsuspecting PC users will fall for their trickery and pay the bogus fine. Paying the 500 PLN fine using Ukash or PaySafeCard is equivalent to sending your money to cyber criminals.

PC users should be aware that no authorities, internationally, use screen-blocking messages to collect fines for any law violations - this is a well-known scam created by cyber criminals.

This ransomware virus originates from a family called Urausy and targets PC users predominantly from Poland. Other ransomware from this family, however, exploits the names of various authorities internationally, targeting PC users from the USA, UK, France, etc.

Cyber criminals exploit the names of the Australian Communications and Media Authority, Agence Nationale de la Sécurité des Systèmes D'information, Mandiant U.S.A Cyber Security, and many others. Ransomware localization is possible, since these security threats are capable of determining the IP addresses of computers targeted for infiltration.

Thus, they present users with the deceptive messages translated into their language and exploiting the names of local authorities.

Note that Polizja Biuro Służby Kryminalnej is a legitimate authority from Poland and not related to this scam. This message, demanding payment of the 500 PLN fine to unblock your computer, is a scam - do not pay the fine. The correct way to deal with this message is to eliminate it from your computer.

Update 2015/02/05 - Cyber criminals have updated the design of Polizja. Biuro Służby Kryminalnej ransomware virus:

poland Biuro Służby Kryminalnej ransomware virus reveton 2015

Ransomware viruses from the Urausy family are distributed by cyber criminals who use 'exploit kits' to infect users' operating systems. Common sources of these security infections are malicious (hacked) websites, infected email messages (attachments), and drive-by downloads.

To prevent ransomware viruses from entering your system when surfing the Internet, use legitimate antivirus and anti-spyware programs.

Moreover, since exploit kits depend on out-dated software to infiltrate systems, Internet users should keep their operating system and installed software up-to-date. If your computer screen is already blocked by "Polizja. Biuro Służby Kryminalnej" ransomware, use the removal guide provided to eliminate this scam from your PC.
