Ministerio Del Interior Virus

Also Known As: Ministerio Del Interior Ransomware
Damage level: Severe

What is Ministerio Del Interior?

The Ministerio Del Interior (Gobierno de España) message, "El ordenador de ha bloqueado", demands payment of a 100 EUR fine (using Ukash or paysafecard) in order to unlock your computer. This is a scam. The message, which blocks the computer screen, is called a ransomware virus and created by cyber criminals to trick unsuspecting PC users into paying a bogus fine.

Commonly, ransomware viruses are distributed using 'exploit kits', which infiltrate users' systems via security vulnerabilities detected within outdated software.

After successful infiltration, the ransomware blocks the desktop and delivers a message reporting that a fine for alleged law violations (watching pornography, distributing copyrighted software, etc.) must be paid within 48 hours to avoid a criminal case.

Ministerio Del Interior Virus

PC users should be aware that no authorities, internationally (including Ministerio Del Interior), use computer screen-locking messages to collect fines for any law violations. This particular ransomware virus originates from a family called Reveton and targets PC users from Spain.

Cyber criminals responsible for creating this scam exploit the names of Gobierno de España and Ministerio Del Interior in order to make their rogue message appear authentic.

PC users who observe this message on their screens should be aware that paying the 100 EUR fine is equivalent to sending their money to cyber criminals. The correct way to deal with this scam is to eliminate it from your computer.

Cyber criminals responsible for creating the Ministerio Del Interior ransomware virus use a 48-hour countdown timer in order to create a sense of urgency. This fake message also claims to record a video to be used as evidence should the fine not be paid. These are ploys used to scare PC users into believing that they have committed a crime and are obliged to pay a fine.

In fact, it is merely a scam. Do not pay this bogus fine. Note also that this message is often localized to target computer users outside of Spain. For example, PC users from the USA observe the message adapted to appear as if sent by the ICE Cyber Crime Center.

To protect their computers from these ransomware viruses, PC users should frequently update their installed software and use legitimate antivirus and anti-spyware programs. If your computer screen is locked by a message supposedly-sent by Ministerio Del Interior, use the removal guide provided to eliminate this scam from your PC.
