Highlightly virus removal instructions
Highlightly is a browser add-on that promises to make user's Internet browsing more productive by showing Wikipedia and Bing results of any selected text in an in-page window. While such functionality may seem legitimate in reality this, browser extension is categorized as being adware or a potentially unwanted application. It installs on user's Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox) without their consent; moreover, it generates intrusive ads and tracks user's Internet browsing. Highlightly is being distributes using a deceptive software marketing method called bundling thus, usually computer users install this plugin with free software downloaded from the Internet.
After successful infiltration this adware generates banner, search, pop-up, pop-under, interstitial ads that are inserted or displayed over parts of webs pages that are being visited. This plugin also generates in-text ads; it converts words on pages that users view into hyperlinks that are linked to advertisements. Moreover, this potentially unwanted application monitors and records user's Internet browsing - domain names of each page user view and advertisements that appear on these pages, IP address, operating system type, search queries, browsing history, physical location, and other information. The presence of Highlightly can lead to malware and virus infections; moreover, this plugin can be a cause of serious privacy issues - it's highly recommended to eliminate this adware from one's Internet browsers.
Highlightly is similar to other potentially unwanted applications which install together with free software, for example SaveSense, Rocket Tab and Solteratop. All the mentioned browser plug-ins don't add any significant value for Internet browser and cause intrusive ads. To avoid installation of adware Internet users should be very attentive when downloading free software. Nowadays most of free software download websites are using download clients to monetize their free services, download clients are small programs that offer installation of advertised browser plug-ins with the chosen freeware. Some of the download clients are very deceptive, and thus it's very important to inspect every downloading step. If your download is managed by some download client be sure to opt-out installation of Highlightly or any other adware by clicking on a "decline" button. Highlightly virus removal:
Windows 7 users:
Click "Start" ("Windows Logo" in the bottom left corner of your desktop), choose "Control Panel." Locate "Programs and Features."
Windows XP users:
Click "Start," choose "Settings" and click "Control Panel." Locate and click "Add or Remove Programs." Locate "Programs and Features."
Windows 8 users:
Right-click in the screen’s bottom-left corner, select Control Panel. In the opened window choose "Uninstall a Program."
In the uninstall programs window look for "Highlightly," select this entry and click "Uninstall" or "Remove".
After uninstalling Highlightly, scan your computer for any left unwanted components or possible malware infections. Recommended malware removal software.

Remove Highlightly from Internet Explorer:
Click "Tools" (or gear icon in Internet Explorer 9), select "Manage Add-ons." Look for "Highlightly" and disable it.
If you continue having problems with the removal of Highlightly you can reset your Internet Explorer settings to default.
Windows XP users: Click "Start," click "Run," in the opened window type "inetcpl.cpl" In the opened window click on "Advanced " tab, then click Reset.
Windows Vista and Windows 7 users: Click the Windows logo, in the start search box type "inetcpl.cpl" and click enter. In the opened window click on "Advanced " tab, then click Reset.
Remove Highlightly from Google Chrome:
Click on a wrench or bars icon (top right of the screen), select "Tools" and click on "Extensions". Locate: "Highlightly" select it and click on a trash can icon.
Remove Highlightly from Mozilla Firefox:
Click "Firefox" (at the top left of the main window), select "Add-ons." Click on "Extensions" and remove "Highlightly".
If you are having problems with the removal of Highlightly you can reset you Mozilla Firefox settings to default.
Open Mozilla Firefox, at the top left corner of the main window click "Firefox," in the opened drop down menu choose Help and then click on Troubleshooting Information, in the opened window click on "Reset Firefox" button.
