What is Surf Slide?

Developed by SuperWeb LLC, Surf Slide is a rogue browser extension  claiming to enhance users' Internet browsing experience by enabling coupons, comparison shopping, and other similar functions. Although this functionality may seem legitimate and useful, be aware that Surf Slide is considered to be adware or a potentially unwanted program (PUP).

The developers of this rogue application employ a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional applications together with the chosen software) to install Surf Slide on Internet browsers without users' permission.

Following successful infiltration on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, Surf Slide generates numerous intrusive online advertisements such as interstitial, search, transitional, pop-up, banner, and full-page ads. It is highly probable that clicking these advertisements will lead to high-risk adware or malware infections.

Additionally, users' Internet browsing activity is continually monitored, since Surf Slide records various software and hardware information that may be personally identifiable. For example: Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, unique identifier numbers, website URLs visited, search queries entered, pages viewed, and other similar details.

This information tracking is likely to result in serious privacy issues or even identity theft. The creators of this PUP have released several hundred rogue add-ons identical to Surf Slide. Techgilematinooch, and Lampy Lighty are just some examples.

None of these applications provide any real value for the user - SuperWeb LLC releases identical browser plug-ins under different names to prevent detection by legitimate anti-virus and anti-spyware suites.

The purpose of these plug-ins is to generate revenue by the display of intrusive online ads and sharing collected information with third parties. For these reasons, you are strongly advised to eliminate Surf Slide from your Internet browsers.

Research shows that most adware is distributed via small programs called 'download managers' on freeware download websites such as download.com, softonic.com, soft32.com, etc. Download managers are used to monetize these websites' free services and traffic by offering installation of promoted '100% virus-free' browser plug-ins together with the chosen free software.

Thus, reckless download and installation of freeware often results in adware or malware infections. This situation can be prevented by closely observing each step of the free software download procedure and clicking 'Decline' if installation of any additional applications is offered.

Furthermore, all software downloaded from the Internet should be installed using the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options - this will reveal any hidden applications listed for installation and allow you to opt-out.

If you have installed Surf Slide, and you experience 'Ads by Surf Slide', 'Surf Slide Deals', and 'Powered by Surf Slide' advertisements, read the removal instructions provided and eliminate this adware from your Internet browsers.
