Websearch.swellsearch.info Redirect

Also Known As: websearch.swellsearch.info browser hijacker
Damage level: Medium

What is websearch.swellsearch.info?

Websearch.swellsearch.info is a browser-hijacking application that employs a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' to install on Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox) together with selected free software.

Bundling is a way to distribute applications together with other software, and therefore, most infections are caused by reckless download and installation of free software from freeware download websites.

Following successful infiltration, the browser default search engine, new tab URL, and homepage settings are assigned to websearch.swellsearch.info. Note that this browser hijacker installs several applications called 'helper programs', which prevent users from reverting these changes.

websearch.swellsearch.info browser hijacker

At time of research, websearch.swellsearch.info was distributed via small download programs (called 'download managers', 'download clients', 'installers', etc.), which are developed to trick users into installation of this browser hijacker together with other software.

Download applications are used by freeware download websites such as download.com, softonic.com, soft32.com and many others to monetize their free services and traffic. Users are offered installation of additional programs together with the chosen software.

Although these promoted applications are said to be 'completely legitimate and virus-free', reckless download and installation of freeware often results in adware or malware infections. The search results displayed by this website may lead to further computer infections, and therefore, you are strongly advised not to use it as your default search engine.

Other browser hijacking applications such as searchtheglobe.info, searchoholic.info, searchmania.info, search-plaza.info, etc.

are similar to websearch.swellsearch.info - none of these provide any significant value, and in fact, redirect users to various dubious websites. Installation of websearch.swellsearch.info, or other similar browser hijackers, can be avoided by closely observing each step of the free software download procedure and clicking 'Decline' if additional software installation is offered.

It is also important to use the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options, since this will reveal any bundled applications listed for installation and allow you to opt-out. If your Internet browser redirects you to websearch.swellsearch.info without your consent, read the removal guide provided and uninstall this browser hijacker from your system.
