Try A Different Browser
The first thing we recommend is to try to watch a YouTube video on a different browser. It is always a good idea to have more than one browser installed, just in case something goes wrong with the primary browser. This Youtube "An error occurred, please try again later" error is one of those cases when a different browser could be helpful. If another browser is able to access YouTube and its videos without any problems, then the cause of the problem is obvious. We recommend you to update your browser first and see if this fixes the problem. If that does not solve the problem and other browser is able to access YouTube, then we suggest you to switch to another browser (at least when you are willing to watch YouTube videos).
Use Google DNS
If there is a problem with your DNS server, you can try to change your DNS server to Google's Public DNS, a free alternative Domain Name System (DNS) service offered to Internet users around the world. The public DNS service and servers are maintained and owned by Google. It functions as a recursive name server providing domain name resolution for any host on the Internet. You will have to change the DNS manually, and we show you how.
To change your DNS server to Google's DNS server, go to your Network Connections settings. Right-click the Start menu and select "Network Connections", or go to Settings and click "Network & Internet".
In the Network & Internet settings window, select your connection type (in our case, "Ethernet") on the left pane and then click "Change adapter options" on the right pane.
Right-click on your connection and select "Properties" from the drop-down menu.
Select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click "Properties".
In the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties window, select "Use the following DNS server addresses", enter 126.96.36.199 as the "Preferred DNS server" and 188.8.131.52 as the "Alternate DNS server". Click "OK" to save changes, open YouTube again and check if this solves the problem with the "An error occurred, please try again later" YouTube error.
This method includes entering and executing "ipconfig" command into Command Prompt. Ipconfig is a command-line tool that displays the current configuration of the installed IP stack on a networked computer. Using this tool, you can flush and reset the contents of the DNS client resolver cache and renew DHCP configuration.
This command requires an elevated Command Prompt opened with administrator privileges. To open elevated Command Prompt, type "command prompt" in Search and right-click on the "Command Prompt" result. Choose "Run as administrator" to run it with administrative privileges.
When you select "Run as administrator", a User Account Control prompt will appear asking if you allow the Command Prompt to make changes to your computer. Click "Yes".
Elevated Command Prompt will appear. In the Command Prompt window, type this command and press Enter to execute it: "ipconfig /flushdns".
Restart your computer, go to YouTube and see if this helped to fix the "An error occurred, please try again later" YouTube error.
Clear Browsing Data
Browsing data consists of a records of Web pages that you have visited in your past browsing sessions, and typically includes the name of the Website as well as its corresponding URL. Other private data components such as cache, cookies, saved passwords, etc., are also saved during your browsing session. Sometimes clearing this browsing data helps to fix the "An error occurred, please try again later" YouTube error. In this guide we are going to show you how to clear Google Chrome browsing data. To clear Google Chrome's browsing data cache, click the three dots in the top-right corner, select "More tools" and click "Clear browsing data...".
In Clear browsing data window select what data you want to remove from your browsing Google Chrome cache and click "CLEAR DATA" button. Close Chrome and open it again, go to YouTube and see if this fixed the "An error occurred, please try again later" error.
Update Audio Drivers
Outdated, incompatible or corrupted sound card drivers may cause audio problems such as no sound, volume icon missing etc. Some users reported that updating audio drivers helped them to fix "An error occurred, please try again later" YouTube error as well. A device driver is a software that helps and tells your operating system and other software how to interact with a particular hardware. It's like a translator between software and hardware, since they often are created by different manufacturers, companies or people. So, the driver allows them to communicate smoothly. In most cases, the computer would not be able to send and receive data correctly without drivers. If appropriate driver is not installed, the device may not function properly, or at all. Maybe you have a faulty driver and you need to update or to reinstall it. To do so, type "device manager" in Search and click on "Device Manager" result to open it.
In Device Manager find "Sound, video and game controllers", expand it and right-click on your audio device, select "Update driver" from the dropdown menu to update it. You will be asked if you want to search for updated driver software automatically or to browse your computer for driver software. If you select first option, then Windows will search your computer and the Internet for the latest driver software for your device. If you select to browse your computer for driver software, then you will need to have the correct driver on your computer or USB drive. You can find it in your sound card's manufacturer website.
Another way to update or install new driver for your sound card is to do it by using third-party software like Snappy Driver Installer. You will need a computer with a working internet connection in order to download it.
Snappy Driver Installer (SDI) is a powerful free driver updater tool for Windows that can store its entire collection of drivers offline. Having offline drivers gives Snappy Driver Installer the ability to have access to fast driver updates, even if there is no active internet connection. Snappy Driver works with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP. Drivers are downloaded through Snappy Driver Installer in what are called driverpacks, which are just collections (packs) of drivers for various hardware like sound devices, video cards, network adapters etc. It can also show duplicate drivers and invalid drivers and it separates the updates that require you to restart your computer so it would be easier to distinguish them from the rest. You can download Snappy Driver Installer from here.

To change the video quality open any YouTube video and click the gear icon, select a different video quality (lower or higher than a current quality). However, this could be only a temporary workaround and you might need to repeat these steps every time you get the error.
