"Your address is invalid email virus" removal guide
What is "Your address is invalid" scam email?
"Your address is invalid" is the name of a malware-proliferating spam campaign. This term defines a mass-scale operation during which deceptive emails are sent by the thousand. The letters distributed through this campaign - are disguised as notifications from FedEx - an American multinational delivery services company. These fake emails state that delivery has failed due to an incorrect address. The errors can be rectified by submitting corrected documentation. However, upon opening, the document attached to the scam letters - begins download/installation of the Qakbot trojan.
The "Your address is invalid" scam emails (subject/title "Delivery status update"; may vary) inform recipients' that their shipping address is invalid. The delivery status is stated as "failed". Specifically, the letters claim that there is a wrong value in the shipping address. To resume with the shipping/delivery process, the fake FedEx emails request recipients to review the attached document, fill out the form, and then send it back. It must be emphasized that these letters are in no way associated with the real FedEx, and all of the information provided by them is false. Hence, instead of containing the stated forms, the attachment initiates Qakbot malware's infection chain - upon opening.
Qakbot is classified as a banking trojan due to targeting information relating to online banking. This malicious program's primary goal is stealing victims' bank account credentials, i.e., their IDs, email addresses, usernames, and passwords. The trojan can extract the following data: browsing activity (visited URLs, viewed webpages, searched queries, etc.), Internet cookies, IP addresses/ geolocations, personally identifiable details, log-in credentials, etc. This malware can also take screenshots and record keystrokes (keylogging). Another heinous functionality of Qakbot is causing chain infections. In other words, this trojan can download/install additional malware (e.g., ransomware, cryptocurrency miners, etc.). Therefore, the threats posed by Qakbot are extensive. To summarize, by trusting the "Your address is invalid" fake emails, users can experience multiple system infections, severe privacy issues, significant financial losses, and identity theft. If it is known/suspected that Qakbot has already infected the system - an anti-virus must be used to remove it immediately.

The emails sent through these large-scale operations - are usually presented as "official", "urgent", "important", and similar; they may be disguised as messages from genuine companies, organizations, authorities, service providers, and other entities. Download a program called Autoruns. This program shows auto-start applications, Registry, and file system locations:
Restart your computer into Safe Mode:
Windows XP and Windows 7 users: Start your computer in Safe Mode. Click Start, click Shut Down, click Restart, click OK. During your computer start process, press the F8 key on your keyboard multiple times until you see the Windows Advanced Option menu, and then select Safe Mode with Networking from the list.

Extract the downloaded archive and run the Autoruns.exe file.
In the Autoruns application, click "Options" at the top and uncheck "Hide Empty Locations" and "Hide Windows Entries" options. After this procedure, click the "Refresh" icon.
Check the list provided by the Autoruns application and locate the malware file that you want to eliminate.
You should write down its full path and name. Note that some malware hides process names under legitimate Windows process names. At this stage, it is very important to avoid removing system files. After you locate the suspicious program you wish to remove, right click your mouse over its name and choose "Delete".
After removing the malware through the Autoruns application (this ensures that the malware will not run automatically on the next system startup), you should search for the malware name on your computer. Be sure to enable hidden files and folders before proceeding. If you find the filename of the malware, be sure to remove it.
Reboot your computer in normal mode. Following these steps should remove any malware from your computer. Note that manual threat removal requires advanced computer skills. If you do not have these skills, leave malware removal to antivirus and anti-malware programs. These steps might not work with advanced malware infections. As always it is best to prevent infection than try to remove malware later. To keep your computer safe, install the latest operating system updates and use antivirus software.
To be sure your computer is free of malware infections, we recommend scanning it with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
