Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2014 (KAV 2014) is a popular antivirus program developed by Kaspersky Lab, which recently celebrated its 16th anniversary. Kaspersky Labs is now one of the four largest internet security vendors in the world. Its latest antivirus program 'Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2014' continues to provide Internet users with reliable and effective protection from the latest security threats.
This new product has several new and updated features to make it more flexible and powerful. In this review, we will take a closer look at the new features offered in KAV 2014. The installation of KAV 2014 takes just one click after downloading the setup file. If you are an advanced user, there are further options, however, the default installation requires little effort and is rapid.
Overview:
KAV 2014 comes with a new user interface, cleaner and more intuitive that the previous version, and thus appealing to less computer savvy users. The main window presents users with essential information: the number of threats detected, threat database update, and threat protection status. All advanced options are available within the Settings section. The four main buttons, 'Scan', 'Update', 'Reports', and 'Quarantine', help users navigate quickly to the most commonly-used features. Additional options are accessed using the arrow button located beside the relevant feature.
Performance:
KAV 2014 has minimal impact on network activity and system performance. After installing KAV 2014 on our test machine, we noticed no performance issues when booting the computer, browsing the Internet, or performing other tasks. This antivirus program also performed well when testing its effectiveness to deal with attempted downloading and infection of our test machine. When testing with various malware, adware, and ransomware, the results were more than satisfying. KAV 2014 detected and stopped all infected downloads before they could do any damage. In addition, once installed, the software works seamlessly in the background without interrupting the user with annoying questions and messages.
Features:
The Kaspersky rescue disk provides an opportunity to burn a CD/DVD or create a flash drive that can be used to clean severely infected machines (for example, machines infected with ransomware).
The browser configuration tool checks Internet Explorer settings for security vulnerabilities. This feature is especially important, since Cyber criminals commonly use zero-day exploit kits to distribute their rogue programs.
The virtual keyboard prevents keyloggers (a type of malware designed to record users' keystrokes) from stealing passwords and other private information.
The Privacy cleaner helps users eliminate private data (browsing history, cookies, etc.) A very useful feature when several people use the same computer.
The vulnerability scanner checks user system settings and common applications for security vulnerabilities.
Scan time:
The quick scan took less than two minutes, however, users should bear in mind that 'quick scan' only checks the most vulnerable areas of the computer. The full system scan took 46 minutes. Our test machine had 412 GB of data, and so the scan time of 46 minutes is very reasonable.
Conclusion:
Kaspersky Lab has again proved that their security products are one of the best. KAV 2014 is a comprehensive and flexible antivirus program that will ensure computer protection from every conceivable threat.
