GhostLocker Ransomware

What kind of malware is GhostLocker?

GhostLocker is a ransomware-type program developed by the GhostSec cyber criminal group. Malware, classed as ransomware, is designed to encrypt data and demand payment for its decryption.

On our testing system, GhostLocker encrypted files and appended their names with a ".ghost" extension. For example, an original filename such as "1.jpg" appeared as "1.jpg.ghost", "2.png" as "2.png.ghost", and so on for all of the affected files.

After the encryption process was completed, a ransom note titled "lmao.html" was dropped. It is noteworthy that the filename of the HTML document may vary.
