Active Clean Pro Unwanted Application
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Active Clean Pro?
Active Clean Pro is promoted as software that allows users to tune up their computers by cleaning unnecessary files from various folders, web browsers, etc.
Judging on its appearance and features provided, this may seem to be a legitimate program, however, Active Clean Pro is classed as a potentially unwanted application (PUA), since it usually infiltrates without users' knowledge and developers proliferate it using a deceptive marketing called "bundling".
When the scanning process is complete, Active Clean Pro displays a list of various files (such as temporary, pre-fetch, dump, etc.) that are supposedly using disk space or even reducing computer performance. To clean the files or use other features, however, users must to purchase a 'full version' of Active Pro Cleaner.
Note that most "bundled" programs indicate that there are problems with the system and can improve system performance in some way. This is often false and users are tricked into purchasing software that provides no real value. Therefore, the scan results might be false and the software merely cleans the fake list of unnecessary files.
There are many applications that show false results to trick users into paying for so-called 'full versions'. Active Clean Pro might be one of these rogue applications. Therefore, we recommend that you uninstall this software, and you should certainly not pay for it. In some cases, developers use the "bundling" method to install more than one application.
Therefore, it is possible that Active Clean Pro is not the only program that is installed. Unwanted installations might also include adware or browser hijackers.
These applications are also categorized as PUAs - they cause unwanted redirects, deliver intrusive advertisements, and collect personal data. If these apps are present, we recommend that you uninstall them immediately.
The internet is full of potentially unwanted applications. Other apps similar to Active Clean Pro include Perfect PC Cleanup, Cosmos System Care, and My Sys Mechanic.
Most of them are very similar and are promoted as "useful applications" that supposedly provide features/tools. In fact, these apps are often designed to generate revenue for their developers by causing redirects, collecting data, and delivering ads. Few provide the functionality promised or any real value.
How did potentially unwanted applications install on my computer?
Active Clean Pro can be found on its official website and downloaded from there, however, as mentioned above, most PUAs are installed without users' knowledge. Software developers use the so-called "bundling" method to trick users into installing various potentially unwanted applications. "Bundling" is stealth installation of third party apps with regular software/apps.
Therefore, software developers do not disclose information about bundled apps properly, and they hide them in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar options/settings of the installation processes.
Furthermore, many users skip installation steps without checking available settings - that is how they inadvertently allow PUAs to be installed, putting their systems at risk of various infections and privacy issues.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Browse the web and download software with care. Download software using official and trustworthy sources, and not third party downloaders, torrents, or other similar programs. Check "Custom", "Advanced" and other settings when installing software.
Decline offers to install potentially unwanted applications and only then proceed to the next step or complete the installation process. Bear in mind that not all advertisements are legitimate, especially if they are intrusive.
If you encounter ads that redirect you to untrustworthy websites such as gambling, pornography, adult dating, and so on, then it is possible that potentially unwanted/adware-type applications are installed on your browser. Check the list of installed extensions, plug-ins, and add-ons - remove any suspicious/unwanted entries immediately.
If your computer is already infected with PUAs, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
