Search.hpackagefinder.app Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is search.hpackagefinder.app?
search.hpackagefinder.app is another fake search engine that, according to the developers, enhances the browsing experience by generating improved results and allowing users to access various popular websites.
On initial inspection, search.hpackagefinder.app may seem legitimate and useful, however, this site is promoted using a browser-hijacking potentially unwanted application (PUA) called Package Finder, which often infiltrates systems without permission. Note that search.hpackagefinder.app and Package Finder track browsing activity.
After successful system infiltration, search.hpackagefinder.app assigns the Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox new tab URL, default search engine, and homepage options to search.hpackagefinder.app.
Although these changes may seem insignificant, users are unable to revert them, since Package Finder continues to reassign browser options when attempts are made to change them.
Therefore, as long as Package Finder is present, returning browsers to their previous states is impossible and users are forced to visit search.hpackagefinder.app when they open a new browser window/tab or search via URL. In addition, when a search query is entered, search.hpackagefinder.app redirects users to search.yahoo.com.
Therefore, search.hpackagefinder.app does not generate any unique results and is a useless as a search engine. Data tracking is also an issue. Research shows that search.hpackagefinder.app and Package Finder record information relating to browsing activity.
These fake search engines and browser hijackers usually gather search queries, URLs visited, pages viewed, IP addresses, geo-locations, and other similar data. Personal information might also be recorded. Furthermore, developers share the information with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who generate revenue by misusing private data.
Therefore, information tracking can lead to serious privacy issues. We strongly recommend that you uninstall the Package Finder browser hijacker and never visit search.hpackagefinder.app.

search.hpackagefinder.app is identical to search.htrackflightsnow.net, search.hwatchtveasy.com, search.hdirectionsandmapstab.com, and dozens of other fake search engines. By offering various "useful features", these sites attempt to give the impression of legitimacy.
Fake search engines usually have just one purpose: to generate revenue for the developers. They deliver no real value for regular users, cause unwanted redirects, and gather data, thereby diminishing the browsing experience and posing a threat to your privacy.
Some fake search engines are known to generate intrusive advertisements and false results. Both typically lead to dubious websites. Therefore, using these sites can lead to various system infections.
How did Package Finder install on my computer?
Package Finder has an official download website, however, due to the lack of knowledge and careless behavior of many users, this app often infiltrates systems without permission. Developers proliferate browser-hijacking apps using intrusive advertisements and a deceptive marketing method called "bundling".
Intrusive advertisements redirect users to intrusive websites and execute scripts designed to download/install potentially unwanted applications. "Bundling" is stealth installation of third party apps with regular software. Developers hide "bundled" apps within "Custom/Advanced" settings (or other sections) of the download/installation processes.
Furthermore, many users often rush these procedures and skip steps. In addition, they click various advertisements without understanding the possible consequences. This behavior often leads to inadvertent installation of third party programs - in this way, users expose their systems to risk of various infections and compromise their privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To prevent this situation, be very cautious when browsing the internet and downloading/installing software. Most intrusive advertisements may seem legitimate, since developers invest many resources into their design, however, they often redirect to dubious websites, such as gambling, adult dating, pornography, etc.
In many cases, they are delivered using adware-type applications. Therefore, if you encounter these redirects, immediately remove all suspicious applications and browser plug-ins. Furthermore, select "Custom/Advanced" settings and carefully analyze each window of the download/installation processes.
Opt-out of additionally-included programs and decline offers to download/install them. Avoid using third party download/installation programs, since these are often monetized using the "bundling" method. Software should be downloaded from official sources only, using direct download links.
If your computer is already infected with Package Finder, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
