Eliminate redirects to and from redtext.biz

Also Known As: redtext.biz pop-up
Damage level: Medium

What is redtext[.]biz?

redtext[.]biz is one of many untrustworthy, rogue web pages that redirects visitors to other dubious sites. Its operation is similar to nextyourcontent[.]com, tinhoranding[.]info, usecytonsmehers[.]info and many other sites of this type. In most cases, people who visit these sites are redirected to them by potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).

I.e., users do not generally visit them intentionally. In addition to unwanted redirects, PUAs usually display ads and record information.

redtext[.]biz pop-up redirects

The installed PUA opens redtext[.]biz in a new browser window or tab. This site then opens other dubious websites or displays dubious, possibly deceptive content. Its actions depend on the visitor's geolocation. People with PUAs installed on their systems are usually served with various intrusive ads.

For example, coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, etc. When clicked, they execute scripts that download and install potentially malicious apps or redirect users to untrustworthy websites. Furthermore, PUAs often operate as information tracking tools. They gather various data such as URLs of opened websites, entered search queries, geolocations, IP addresses, and so on.

Developers share all recorded details with third parties (possibly cyber criminals) who use the information to generate revenue. PUAs might also be designed to collect personal, sensitive data. Therefore, do not use PUAs or have them installed.

Developers promote PUAs as legitimate apps simply to trick people into downloading and installing them. In fact, PUAs deliver none of the promised/advertised features, tools, or any other value, and are used only to generate revenue for the developers. Furthermore, they might cause privacy/browsing safety issues or even more serious problems such as identity theft.

How did adware install on my computer?

Like most apps of this type, they are generally downloaded and installed without people's knowledge. Typically, this happens through intrusive ads or set-ups of other software. If clicked, some ads run scripts designed to download and install PUAs. Additionally, developers often bundle PUAs into set-ups of other programs.

Information about this is usually hidden in "Advanced", "Custom" and other parts. In summary, people often cause unwanted download and installation of PUAs through other software set-ups (when they leave the settings unchecked and unchanged).

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

Do not skip download or installation setup steps without checking all included checkboxes or "Custom", "Advanced" (and other) settings. Deselect bundled software/applications and only then complete the setup. Do not download software from untrustworthy websites, via third party downloaders, Peer-to-Peer networks such as torrent clients, eMule, and so on.

Use only official websites. Avoid clicking intrusive ads, since they often lead to untrustworthy websites relating to gambling, pornography, adult dating, etc. If you encounter these ads or are redirected to unwanted websites, check for unwanted or unknown applications (extensions, plug-ins, and add-ons) installed on your browser and remove them immediately.

The same applies to programs of this type installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
