Stop web browsers from causing redirects to videostream.best

Also Known As: videostream.best pop-up
Damage level: Medium

What is videostream[.]best?

videostream[.]best is one of many rogue websites designed to redirect visitors to other web pages of this kind, or to load dubious content.

Some other examples include loading-wsite[.]com, private-show[.]live, and sonagerthrou[.]com. Generally, browsers open these sites when potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) are installed. Therefore, most people are forced to visit the rogue sites inadvertently. PUAs can also gather browsing data and serve ads.

videostream[.]best pop-up redirects

Once installed, PUAs regularly open rogue web pages such as videostream[.]best in new windows or tabs. These sites are designed to load dubious content or open more (about two or three) untrustworthy websites.

These actions depend on the visitor's geolocation. The websites often demand permission to show notifications using 'clickbait' techniques - videostream[.]best does this by encouraging users to click the "Allow" button so that they can watch a video. Even if the video simply starts to play, videostream[.]best obtains permission to show notifications.

Typically, sites such as videostream[.]best show notifications that contain dubious advertisements. These lead to other potentially malicious pages. Therefore, do not allow such websites to show any notifications. Furthermore, PUAs that open websites such as videostream[.]best often feed users with unwanted ads.

Typically, they display pop-up ads, banners, coupons, surveys and other graphical content that should not be trusted or clicked. These ads can lead to untrustworthy web pages or download/install unwanted, potentially malicious software. PUAs also collect browsing data.

For example, addresses of visited websites, entered search queries, IP addresses, geolocations, and so on. They sometimes record private, sensitive information. Developers misuse the information to generate revenue, as do third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) with whom the data is often shared.

People who use PUAs and/or have them installed risk experiencing problems with browsing safety, privacy, and they might even become victims of identity theft. Typically, apps of this type are useless (even if they are advertised as legitimate apps, which supposedly deliver various features).

In most cases, they are designed only to help the developers to generate revenue by serving ads, gathering data, and forcing users to visit dubious web pages. We strongly recommend that you uninstall all PUAs immediately.

How did adware install on my computer?

In most cases, people download and install potentially unwanted apps unintentionally. This happens when they click deceptive ads (mentioned above) or download/install various (usually free) software without checking settings included in the set-ups. PUAs are often distributed using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling".

I.e., developers include unwanted apps into the set-ups of other programs as additional offers.

Generally, these offers can be found in settings such as "Custom", "Advanced", and other similar sections. Many people fail to check and change these settings, thereby inadvertently granting permission for PUAs to be downloaded and/or installed though the setups of regular software.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

Download software from official websites and via direct links. Unofficial pages, Peer-to-Peer networks (torrent clients, eMule, and so on), third party downloaders, installers and other similar sources/channels should not be used to download or install software. Avoid clicking intrusive advertisements, especially if they are displayed on dubious websites.

These ads might be designed to run scripts to download/install unwanted software, or they will redirect to untrustworthy web pages. Check settings available in download/installation set-ups and dismiss offers to download or install additionally-included, unwanted programs.

Remove any unwanted, unknown or suspicious extensions, add-ons, and plug-ins already installed on the browser. The same applies to software of this kind that is installed on a computer. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
