How to remove apps that might be designed to open quarenafius.com

Also Known As: Ads by quarenafius.com
Damage level: Medium

What is quarenafius[.]com?

quarenafius[.]com is a rogue website that loads dubious content or opens a number of other rogue sites. This is not the only website that operates in this way - more examples are belmonhezamil[.]pro, 2fatoffers[.]xyz and creasonsau[.]info.

These sites are usually opened by potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) installed on the browser and/or operating system, or when people click deceptive ads or visit untrusted web pages. Therefore, people do not often visit quarenafius[.]com or other similar sites intentionally. PUAs can also collect browsing data and/or serve advertisements.

quarenafius[.]com pop-up redirects

PUAs regularly open websites such as quarenafius[.]com in a new browser window or tab. These sites check the IP addresses of visitors and then redirect them to two or three other untrusted websites, or they load dubious content. Web pages opened through sites such as quarenafius[.]com tend to contain deceptive ads that promote dubious software.

Note that quarenafius[.]com often tricks visitors into allowing it to show notifications using a 'clickbait' technique: it encourages them to prove that they are not robots by clicking the "Allow" button.

We advise against allowing anything, since this will permit quarenafius[.]com to show notifications that might contain links to untrusted websites, deceptive advertisements, and other dubious content. Furthermore, most PUAs feed users with advertisements.

For example, coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, and so on. These conceal underlying content of visited pages and also redirect users who click them to potentially malicious pages, or they cause download/installation of unwanted software by executing certain scripts.

PUAs can record information relating to users' browsing habits including addresses of visited web pages, entered search queries, geolocations, IP addresses, and other data of this kind. They sometimes also gather sensitive details. Developers sell the data to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue.

Most PUAs are advertised as useful, legitimate applications, however, few function as promised. PUAs are designed only help the developers to generate revenue by gathering data, displaying ads and forcing users to visit dubious web pages. They can thus lead to problems with privacy, browsing safety, and some users might even become victims of identity theft.

Therefore, we strongly recommend that you uninstall all PUAs immediately.

How did adware install on my computer?

People tend to download and install PUAs unintentionally clicking deceptive advertisements or by downloading/installing programs without checking settings included in the set-ups. PUAs are often downloaded and installed when developers distribute them using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling".

I.e., they include unwanted apps into the set-ups of other programs and hide related information in settings such as "Custom", "Advanced", etc. PUAs are downloaded and installed when people fail to check and change the settings. You should therefore decline all offers to download or install additionally-included apps.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

Files and programs should be downloaded only from official websites, since other channels/tools such as third party downloaders (and installers), Peer-to-Peer networks such as torrent clients, eMule, dubious websites, etc., could be used to distribute PUAs or malicious programs.

Note that download/installation set-ups often contain settings such as "Custom" or "Advanced" - check these carefully, especially if the program is free. The settings can mention offers to download and install various potentially unwanted applications.

Do not click advertisements that are displayed on untrusted websites (e.g., on those relating to pornography, gambling, adult dating, and so on), since they might open untrusted, potentially malicious websites or download/install unwanted apps. Finally, remove all unwanted, suspicious apps (extensions, plug-ins, add-ons) that are installed on the web browser immediately.

The same should be applied to programs of this kind that are installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
