How to uninstall apps downloaded through nbvtread.com

Also Known As: nbvtread.com pop-up
Type: Mac Virus
Damage level: Medium

What is "nbvtread[.]com"?

nbvtread[.]com is one of many untrusted websites that deceive visitors into downloading and installing potentially unwanted applications (PUAs). Generally, websites such as nbvtread[.]com claim that users' mobile or desktop devices are infected with viruses and encourage immediate removal with specific software.

No software should be downloaded from nbvtread[.]com or other similar web pages. People do not often open these websites intentionally - they are opened by other dubious web pages, clicked deceptive advertisements, or PUAs installed on browsers and/or operating systems.

nbvtread[.]com scam

nnbvtread[.]com targets users of desktop and mobile Apple devices. When visited, it displays a virus notification stating that the device is heavily damaged by two harmful viruses, which were installed through recently-visited adult websites.

Visitors are encouraged to remove the viruses as soon as possible, since they will soon corrupt SIM card, contacts, photos, data, installed applications, and so on. To remove them, they are encouraged to click the "REPAIR FAST NOW" button, which then opens the download page of an application.

At the time of research, nbvtread[.]com promoted an application called Secured VPN by CPunks. Regardless of whether this is a legitimate application, all software should be downloaded directly from official websites or other legitimate sources such as App Store.

Avoid websites such as nbvtread[.]com. Sites such as nbvtread[.]com are commonly opened by various PUAs that are installed on browsers and/or operating systems.

PUAs force users to visit dubious web pages, gather information and serve intrusive advertisements. Frequently, they collect browsing-related details such as IP addresses, addresses of visited websites, entered search queries, geolocations, and other browsing data.

Some PUAs record personal details. Developers sell the data to third parties (cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue. Furthermore, PUAs often display ads such as coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, etc. When clicked, these open untrusted, potentially malicious websites or execute scripts that download or install unwanted software.

PUAs can lead to unwanted downloads/installations, identity theft, problems with browsing safety, privacy, and so on. Therefore, remove all PUAs immediately.

Examples of deceptive pages that are similar to nbvtread[.]com include safari-extension[.]com, mobile-apple[.]club and vpnprotectplus[.]com.

Typically, these scam websites trick unsuspecting visitors into believing that their devices are infected with viruses and installing PUAs that supposedly remove them. None of these web pages can be trusted. If your browser them continually, it is very likely that a PUA is already installed on the browser or operating system.

How did potentially unwanted applications install on my computer?

Generally, these apps are installed through clicked intrusive advertisements or when software developers use the "bundling" method - including unwanted apps into the download or installation set-ups of other software. This deceptive marketing method is used to trick people into installing PUAs together other, regular software.

Developers achieve this by hiding PUAs in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings of the download/installation set-ups. Information about these unwanted apps is hidden in the software set-ups and many users leave the settings unchecked and unchanged, thereby causing infiltration of PUAs.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

Download software from official, trustworthy sources (websites) only. Do not use third party downloaders, Peer-to-Peer networks (e.g., torrent clients, eMule), unofficial websites or other similar channels/tools. Also avoid third party installers. Check all "Advanced", "Custom" and other settings of the download and installation setup.

Dismiss offers to download or install unwanted software before completing the download/installation. If clicked, intrusive ads displayed on dubious websites often redirect to other, malicious websites.

These ads might also appear on legitimate websites. If unwanted ads appear on most web pages, or the browser opens dubious pages automatically, check for unwanted apps (extensions, add-ons, plug-ins) and remove them immediately. Also remove software of this kind that is installed on the operating system.

If your computer is already infected with PUAs, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate them.
