How to remove unwanted apps that open lokpresearch.club and similar sites

Also Known As: Ads by lokpresearch.club
Damage level: Medium

What is lokpresearch[.]club?

lokpresearch[.]club functions in a similar manner to cloystercdn[.]com, meetclick[.]biz, tiktok-news[.]com and many other rogue sites - it opens other untrusted pages or displays dubious content.

Most users do not open/visit websites such as lokpresearch[.]club intentionally - they are usually opened by potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) installed on browsers, through deceptive advertisements, and other pages of this kind.

lokpresearch[.]club pop-up redirects

What happens when a website such as lokpresearch[.]club is visited denends on the visitor's geolocation: it can open about two or three other bogus websites or load dubious content. Generally, these websites demand permission to show notifications - they attempt to deceive visitors using a 'clickbait' technique.

In this case, lokpresearch[.]club suggests that, by clicking the "Allow" button, visitors confirm that they are not robots. Generally, notifications displayed by websites such as lokpresearch[.]club contain links to other untrusted websites, deceptive ads, etc.

Commonly, PUAs also gather details relating to users' browsing habits such as IP addresses, geolocations, URLs of visited websites, entered search queries, and other information. In some cases, PUAs record sensitive, personal data as well. Developers sell the data to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) or misuse it to generate revenue in other ways.

Additionally, PUAs serve advertisements. For example, pop-up ads, coupons, banners, surveys, and others. When clicked, these ads can open dubious websites or execute scripts to download and install unwanted, potentially malicious software.

PUAs cause problems relating to browsing safety and privacy, identity theft, and can lead to unwanted downloads/installations. Therefore, PUAs should never be downloaded or installed.

There are many websites similar to lokpresearch[.]club and various PUAs on the internet. Generally, PUAs promote various untrusted sites and can be designed to gather information and/or serve advertisements. They are often advertised as useful and legitimate, and supposedly include various features, improve the browsing experience, etc.

In fact, they are designed only to generate revenue for the developers and are useless to regular users.

How did adware install on my computer?

PUAs are often downloaded/installed together with other products. This deceptive marketing technique of pre-packing regular software with unwanted or malicious additions is called "bundling".

By rushing through download/installation of software (e.g. ignoring terms, skipping steps and sections, using "Quick/Express" settings, etc.) many users risk unintentionally allowing bundled content into their devices. Intrusive advertisements proliferate PUAs as well.

When clicked, the ads can execute scripts to download/install these applications without users' permission. Some PUAs have "official" download web pages from which they can be downloaded.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

Download software and files from official websites and via direct links. It is not safe to use torrent clients, eMule (or other Peer-to-Peer networks), third party downloaders, unofficial websites or other sources of this kind. Avoid third party installers. Check "Advanced", "Custom" and other settings, and decline offers to download or install unwanted software.

Do not click ads that are displayed on dubious websites, since they can open other untrusted websites or even cause unwanted downloads and installations. Remove any unwanted, suspicious applications (extensions, add-ons, and plug-ins) that are installed on the browser.

The same should be applied to programs of this kind that are installed on the operating system.. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
