How to stop browsers from opening viketohelp.com and similar pages

Also Known As: Ads by viketohelp.online
Damage level: Medium

What is viketohelp[.]online?

viketohelp[.]online is an untrusted website designed to promote other pages of this kind or load dubious content. The internet is full of websites like viketohelp[.]online and some examples are thenicenewz[.]com, leasedtohe[.]biz, and ablotadom[.]com.

Typically, users do not visit these sites intentionally - they are promoted through other untrusted websites, deceptive advertisements, and potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).

viketohelp[.]online pop-up redirects

Users often open sites such as viketohelp[.]online by clicking deceptive ads and while visiting other dubious pages. Browsers open these sites due to PUAs installed on them. In any case, when the viketohelp[.]online page or another pages of this kind are visited, they load dubious content or open two/three other dubious sites. This depends on the geolocations of it visitors.

These sites are often used to promote deceptive download pages for various browser hijackers, adware-type applications, scam pages, etc. Most use 'clickbait' techniques to trick visitors into clicking the "Allow" button, which allows the visited website to show notifications.

Viketohelp[.]online displays a message urging users to click "Allow" to continue loading the page. Do not allow these pages to show their notifications, since they can contain deceptive advertisements, promote dubious pages, etc.

PUAs promoting websites such as viketohelp[.]online can collect browsing-related details. For example, geolocations, entered search queries, URLs of visited (opened) websites, and Internet Protocol addresses. Some PUAs can read sensitive information, such as credit card details, passwords, and so on.

PUAs also generate advertisements. For example, banners, coupons, surveys, and various pop-up ads. These promote dubious websites and, in some cases, cause download/installation of unwanted software by executing certain scripts.

Remove all PUAs from browsers and operating systems immediately.

viketohelp[.]online and similar sites are often visited by users unintentionally. Browsers open these untrusted pages due to PUAs installed on them. These apps are advertised as useful and legitimate, but are useless to regular users and can cause serious issues. Many users download and install potentially unwanted applications inadvertently.

How did adware install on my computer?

PUAs are distributed via download/installation set-ups of other products. This deceptive marketing tactic of packing regular software with unwanted or malicious additions is called "bundling".

Rushing download/installation processes (e.g. ignoring terms, skipping steps and settings, etc.) increases the risk of inadvertently allowing bundled content into the system.

Some PUAs have "official" download sites. Intrusive advertisements proliferate these applications as well. Once clicked, they can execute scripts to download/install PUAs without users' consent.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

Download software and files from official websites and via direct links. It is not safe to use torrent clients, eMule (or other Peer-to-Peer networks), third party downloaders, unofficial websites or other sources of this kind.

Avoid third party installers. Check "Advanced", "Custom" and other settings, and decline offers to download or install unwanted software. Do not click ads that are displayed on dubious websites, since they can open other untrusted websites or even cause unwanted downloads and installations.

Remove any unwanted, suspicious applications (extensions, add-ons, and plug-ins) that are installed on the browser. The same should be applied to programs of this kind that are installed on the operating system.

Regularly scan your computer with reputable antivirus or anti-spyware software and keep this software up to date.

If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
