Browser notification spam in general

Oortagle[.]top, webprotectionrequired[.]com, messenger-rocks[.]com, and searchmylinks[.]com are but a few examples of rogue webpages we have examined recently. Sites of this kind deliver browser notifications that promote deceptive and malicious material.

It is noteworthy that while legitimate products or services may be encountered via these ads – they are highly unlikely to be endorsed in this fashion by any official parties. It is most probable that this endorsement is undertaken by scammers who abuse the content's affiliate programs to obtain illegitimate commissions.

How did ourhugenewz[.]com gain permission to deliver spam notifications?

Websites need user permission to deliver browser notifications. Therefore, if you are seeing these adverts from ourhugenewz[.]com – it means that when this page was visited, consent to their delivery was granted by clicking "Allow", "Allow Notifications", or a similar option.

It is pertinent to mention that rogue sites often use deception (e.g., clickbait, fake CAPTCHA tests, adult-oriented content, etc.) to entice visitors into enabling notifications.

How to prevent deceptive sites from delivering spam notifications?

If you enter a suspicious website – do not permit it to display browser notifications (i.e., do not click "Allow", "Allow Notifications", etc.). We advise ignoring or denying notification requests from such sites (i.e., selecting "Block", "Block Notifications", etc.).

In case of continuous unprompted redirects to dubious webpages, check the device for installed adware. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
