How to identify crypto scams like the "Dymension Genesis" fake giveaway

Also Known As: Dymension Genesis fake airdrop
Damage level: Medium

What is "Dymension Genesis"?

Dymension (dymension[.]xyz) is a legitimate platform that serves as a home for easily deployable and swiftly operating app-chains known as RollApps. Nonetheless, we have identified a fraudulent website mimicking this authentic service, with a specific focus on deceiving unsuspecting users to steal their cryptocurrency.

Dymension Genesis scam

"Dymension Genesis" scam in detail

The scam is promoted using fake news articles published on unofficial and unreliable websites and posts on X (Twitter). Scammers use these articles and posts to trick unsuspecting individuals into visiting a fake Dymension website (there are at least three fake sites, dymansion[.]xyz, dymensionfi[.]com, and dymension[.]one).

Upon reaching the webpage, visitors are guided to assess their eligibility for claiming free cryptocurrency. Checking the eligibility requires connecting a crypto wallet, which leads to the approval of a malicious contract and execution of a drainer. This drainer is created to transfer cryptocurrency from the victim's wallet to the scammers' wallet.

Thus, users who follow instructions on any of the fake Dymension websites end up having their cryptocurrency stolen. Recovering transferred cryptocurrency is often challenging, as transactions in the cryptocurrency space are designed to be irreversible. Once funds have been transferred, they typically cannot be recovered through traditional means.

Thus, users should exercise caution, conduct thorough research, verify the authenticity of platforms, use secure wallets, enable two-factor authentication, and be wary of unsolicited offers or requests for personal information. Additionally, staying informed about common crypto scams and maintaining a healthy skepticism can help safeguard against fraudulent activities.
