Search.addictedtomovies.co Redirect

Also Known As: Addicted To Movies browser hijacker
Damage level: Medium

What is search.addictedtomovies.co?

Addicted To Movies is a rogue application that falsely claims to allow users to watch movies online, free of charge. Judging on appearance alone, Addicted To Movies may appear legitimate and useful, however, this app typically infiltrates systems without permission.

Furthermore, it stealthily modifies browser options and records various sensitive data. For these reasons, Addicted To Movies is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and a browser hijacker.

search.addictedtomovies.co browser hijacker

Immediately after infiltration, Addicted To Movies hijacks Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, stealthily assigning the new tab URL, default search engine, and homepage options to search.addictedtomovies.co (a fake Internet search engine). Note that these changes may seem insignificant, however,  users are unable to revert them.

Addicted To Movies continues to reassign browser options when attempts are made to change them. Therefore, it becomes impossible to return browser options to their previous states. Essentially, users are forced to visit search.addictedtomovies.co when they open a new browser tab or search via the URL bar.

Addicted To Movies is used to deceptively build search.addictedtomovies.co website traffic at the cost to users' Internet browsing experience. As mentioned above, Addicted To Movies gathers various information that might contain personal details. There is a high probability that the collected data will be shared with third parties to generate revenue.

Thus, the presence of a data-tracking app might lead to serious privacy issues. Note that some browser hijackers mine cryptocurrencies and/or run other unwanted processes in the background (Addicted To Movies is yet not confirmed to do this).

In this way, PUPs significantly diminish overall system performance. For these reasons, we strongly advise you to uninstall Addicted To Movies (and other browser hijackers) immediately.

Addicted To Movies is identical to Email Account Login, Your Streaming Radio Now, Easy Coupon Access, and many others. In fact, all browser-hijacking applications are very similar. All offer certain "useful features", however, claims to enable new functionality are merely attempts to give the impression of legitimacy. Browser hijacking apps provide no value for regular users.

Be aware that programs such as Addicted To Movies are designed only to generate revenue for the developers, and most provide no real value for regular users. Rather than enabling the features promised, PUPs pose a direct threat to your privacy and Internet browsing safety.

Some fake search engines feed users with false search results and/or intrusive advertisements (banners, coupons, etc.) In most cases, these results/ads lead to dubious websites. Furthermore, some ads run scripts that stealthily infect the system with malware. Therefore, using a fake Internet search engine is very risky.

How did search.addictedtomovies.co install on my computer?

This browser hijacker is free for anyone to download on its official website, however, developers proliferate browser hijackers by employing a deceptive marketing method called "bundling", together with the intrusive ads. Thus, in most cases, Addicted To Movies infiltrates systems without permission.

"Bundling" is stealth installation of third party applications together with regular (typically, free) software. Developers do not disclose this installation properly - they hide "bundled" apps within various sections (usually "Custom" or "Advanced" settings) of the download/installation processes.

Therefore, skipping download/installation steps and clicking advertisements often leads to inadvertent installation of potentially unwanted programs.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

This situation can be prevented by paying close attention during the download/installation processes, and when browsing the Internet. Select the "Custom/Advanced" settings, closely analyze each step and opt-out of all additionally-included programs. Furthermore, avoid using any third party downloaders/installers, since criminals use them to proliferate PUPs.

Cyber criminals invest many resources into intrusive ad design. In most cases they look genuine, and determining if displayed ads originate from the visited (legitimate) website, is difficult.

Once clicked, however, they redirect to gambling, adult dating, and other dubious websites. These advertisements are commonly displayed using various adware-type programs. If you encounter these redirects, immediately eliminate all suspicious apps/browser plug-ins. Caution is the key to computer safety.
