Wise System Mechanic Unwanted Application

Also Known As: Wise System Mechanic potentially unwanted program
Damage level: Medium

What is Wise System Mechanic?

Developers present Wise System Mechanic as a great tool to optimize system performance. These claims often trick users into believing that Wise System Mechanic is legitimate and useful, however, it is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP). This app often infiltrates systems without permission and provides no real value for regular users.

Wise System Mechanic unwanted application

Following infiltration, Wise System Mechanic performs a fake system scan and displays a long list of errors/infections. Wise System Mechanic then encourages users to immediately remove these issues. To achieve this, users must purchase a full version of Wise System Mechanic.

Be aware that the list of errors and infections is false. Claims that the system is corrupted are merely attempts to scare and trick victims into paying for the full version. Developers use these tactics to generate revenue by abusing unsuspecting users.

As mentioned above, this PUP often infiltrates systems without permission. This behavior is very common to potentially unwanted programs and there is a high probability that Wise System Mechanic will be delivered with a number of other PUPs.

In most cases, PUPs deliver intrusive advertisements (coupons, banners, pop-ups, and so on), gather personal information, modify web browser settings, and run various unwanted processes in the background. To deliver intrusive ads, PUPs employ tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site.

Therefore, displayed ads often overlay visited website content, thereby diminishing the browsing experience. Furthermore, some redirect to malicious websites and run scripts that download and install malware/PUPs. Therefore, even a single click can result in high-risk computer infections. Another significant downside is data tracking.

PUPs often gather keystrokes, URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, IP addresses, and other sensitive information that is later sold to third parties. There is a high probability that these people will misuse the information to generate revenue. Therefore, the presence of data-tracking apps might lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft.

Potentially unwanted programs also modify web browser settings to promote dubious websites (most of which are fake search engines). In addition, PUPs mine cryptocurrencies or run other unwanted processes in the background. By misusing resources, PUPs significantly diminish overall system performance.

There are dozens of potentially unwanted programs that share similarities with Wise System Mechanic. For example, SlimCleaner, Digital Coin Tracker, Cat Start, and My Recipes XP. These applications offer "useful features", however, promises to enable these functions are simply attempts to give the impression of legitimacy and trick users to install.

The only purpose of all PUPs is to generate revenue for the developers. These programs deliver no real value for regular users and pose a direct threat to your privacy and Internet browsing safety.

How did Wise System Mechanic install on my computer?

Wise System Mechanic has an official download website, however, it is likely to infiltrate systems without permission, since developers proliferate this PUP using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" (stealth installation of third party apps with regular software/apps), and the aforementioned intrusive advertisements.

Developers hide "bundled" apps within "Custom/Advanced" settings or other sections of the download/installation processes. Many users rush these procedures and skip steps. In addition, they click dubious links and ads without understanding the possible consequences. In doing so, they expose their systems to risk of various infections and compromise their privacy.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

The main reasons for computer infections are poor knowledge and careless behavior. The key to safety is caution. Therefore, pay close attention when browsing the Internet and downloading/installing software. Be aware aware that many intrusive ads seem legitimate, but are easy to distinguish, since most lead to gambling, adult dating, pornography and other dubious websites.

If you encounter these redirects, immediately eliminate all dubious applications and browser plug-ins. Furthermore, carefully analyze each step of the download/installation processes and opt-out of all additionally-included programs. Using a legitimate anti-virus/anti-spyware suite is also highly recommended.
