Also Known As: beteim.com pop-up
Type: Adware
Damage level: Medium

What is beteim.com?

beteim.com is one of many rogue websites. It is identical to oclasrv.com, adprohub.com, trackingclick.com, and many others.

The website redirects users to various other untrustworthy websites. In most cases, users visit beteim.com inadvertently - they are redirected by potentially unwanted programs (PUPs). These programs tend to infiltrate systems without permission. Most PUPs deliver unwanted intrusive advertisements, record data, and run background processes.

beteim.com adware

Once installed, potentially unwanted programs randomly open new browser windows/tabs, and redirect users to the beteim.com website, which then causes redirects to other (typically 2-3) untrustworthy sites. Therefore, redirects caused by beteim.com can result in high-risk computer infections.

PUPs deliver various malicious and intrusive ads such as coupons, banners, pop-ups, and so on. These are displayed via tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site and conceal underlying content. In addition, clicking these ads usually in redirection to malicious websites.

They can even execute scripts designed to download and install malware (or other potentially unwanted programs). Clicking these ads can also result in various computer infections. Furthermore, potentially unwanted programs usually record user-system data such as visited websites, keystrokes, IP addresses, search queries, geographical locations, etc.

It is possible that some of the collected data will contain personal details or sensitive information. Developers usually sell the data to third parties (potentially cyber criminals) to generate revenue.

Furthermore, PUPs are known to run various background tasks without users' permission - they can misuse system resources and reduce overall computer performance. Installed potentially unwanted programs are a direct threat to your privacy and browsing safety. We strongly advise you to uninstall all unwanted programs immediately.

There are many rogue applications available, all of which are identical. They commonly offer various "useful" tools, features, etc., and claim to be legitimate. In fact, most are used to generate revenue for developers and deliver no real value for regular users. They also cause unwanted redirects, deploy various ads, gather information, and misuse computer resources.

How did adware install on my computer?

Many potentially unwanted programs have official download websites, however, most are installed via advertisements and a deceptive marketing method called "bundling". Bundling is stealth installation of third party programs (such as potentially unwanted programs) with regular software that you download from the Internet.

Many users install potentially unwanted programs inadvertently, without their consent. Developers hide these programs in "Custom", "Advanced", and other similar settings/options of the installation processes, and they usually do not disclose these installations properly.

Furthermore, many users tend to skip installation steps without checking options/settings, or they click various ads that lead to unwanted websites. This behaviour leads to inadvertent installation of potentially unwanted programs and risks various computer infections.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

Download software from official websites and use direct links only. Avoid using third party software downloaders and torrents to download software. Pay attention to the details when installing software. Do not skip the installation steps - check all the available "Custom", "Advanced", and other similar options of the process.

Opt-out all additionally-included programs, tools, and features. Be cautious when browsing the web and avoid clicking ads. Developers invest time and money to make malicious ads to appear legitimate, however, once clicked, they cause unwanted redirects and often more serious problems.

If you are redirected to gambling, pornography, adult dating, and other similar websites after clicking an ad, immediately close the website/s and check the installed plug-ins, extensions, and add-ons on your browser. If you find any suspicious entries, remove them immediately.

Finally, keep your antivirus software enabled and browser updated. If your computer is already infected with beteim.com, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this adware.
