What is CAUTHRON?
CAUTHRON is a rogue application designed to deliver intrusive advertisements and (potentially) record sensitive information. CAUTHRON typically infiltrates systems without users’ permission. For these reasons, this app is categorized as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
Following infiltration, CAUTHRON delivers intrusive advertisements, most of which are pop-ups. They are delivered using tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site and often conceal underlying content, thereby significantly diminishing the browsing experience.
Furthermore, they can lead to malicious websites and execute scripts that download and install malware/PUPs. Therefore, clicking them is risky and can lead to high-risk computer infections. CAUTHRON is categorized as adware and there is a high probability that it will collect user-system information about your web browsing habits.
Collected data typically includes personal details that adware developers share with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse personal information to generate revenue. Therefore, the presence of data-tracking applications can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. You are strongly advised to eliminate CAUTHRON adware immediately.

There are dozens of adware-type applications that have similar characteristics to CAUTHRON (for example, Yubby, Advanced Top, and Ummi Video Downloader). Most offers 'useful functions', however, potentially unwanted programs are designed only to generate revenue for the developers - the aforementioned claims are merely attempts to give the impression of legitimacy.
Rather than giving any real value for regular users, they deliver intrusive advertisements and gather sensitive information, thereby posing a direct threat to your privacy and Internet browsing safety.
How did CAUTHRON install on my computer?
As mentioned above, CAUTHRON adware often infiltrates systems without users’ permission, since developers proliferate this PUP using "bundling" and intrusive advertising methods. "Bundling" is essentially stealth installation of third party programs with regular (typically free) software.
Developers do not disclose this information properly - "bundled" PUPs are concealed within various sections (in most cases "Custom/Advanced" settings) of the download or installation processes.
Furthermore, many users are likely to skip download/installation steps and click various advertisements - behavior that often leads to inadvertent installation of PUPs such as CAUTHRON. In this way, users expose their systems to risk of various infections and compromise their privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
The main reasons for computer infections are poor knowledge and careless behavior - the key to safety is caution. Therefore, pay close attention when downloading/installing software and browsing the Internet in general. Select "Advanced/Custom" settings and carefully analyze each window of the download/installation dialogs.
Opt-out of all additionally-included programs and decline offers to download/install them. You are advised to download programs from official sources only, using direct download links. Third party downloaders/installers often include rogue apps, and thus these tools should never be used.
Remember that intrusive advertisements typically seem legitimate, since developers invest many resources into their design. Most are delivered by adware.
If you encounter suspicious redirects, immediately eliminate all suspicious applications and browser plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with CAUTHRON, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this adware.
