What is hp.myway.com?

According to Mindspark Interactive Network (application developers), QuickCouponFinder allows users to access free online coupons directly from their web browsers. This app may seem legitimate and useful, however, it is categorized as a browser hijacker and a potentially unwanted application (PUA). QuickCouponFinder is often installed without users' knowledge, modifies browser settings, and promotes a dubious search engine.

hp.myway.com browser hijacker

QuickCouponFinder can be installed on Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safari, and Mozilla Firefox. Once installed, it changes the default search engine, homepage, and new tab URL to hp.myway.com. In summary, users are forced to visit hp.myway.com when they open a new tab or window. These changes may not seem significant, but QuickCouponFinder prevents users from returning browser options to their original settings - the app immediately reassigns them. Another downside of browser hijackers is information tracking. It is not confirmed whether QuickCouponFinder collects personal information (or other data), however, many browser hijackers perform this function. Collected information usually consists of IP addresses, search queries, visited websites, keystrokes, geolocations, etc. Recorded data might contain personal or sensitive information that is shared with third parties (potentially cyber criminals) and misused to generate revenue. Generally, information tracking and sharing causes privacy issues or even identity theft. Therefore, we recommend that you uninstall browser hijackers (including QuickCouponFinder) immediately.

Many browser hijackers are available. Mindspark Interactive Network alone has released a number of apps of this type: YogaPoseOnline, OnlineFormFinder, GetPoliticalNews, etc. They provide different tools/features, but users often install them unintentionally. They modify browser settings and generate revenue for their developers.

How did QuickCouponFinder install on my computer?

Most potentially unwanted applications (browser hijackers) of this type can be downloaded from their official websites, however, most users install them inadvertently when installing other software. Software developers often use a deceptive marketing called "bundling" - stealth installation of potentially unwanted applications together with regular software. As a rule, these PUAs are hidden in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings of the installation processes. Therefore, information about the existence of bundled programs/applications is not properly disclosed. Furthermore, users who skip installation steps without checking the aforementioned settings often install PUAs (including QuickCouponFinder) without their knowledge.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

We recommend that you download software using official and trustworthy websites (or other sources) only. Avoid third party installers, downloaders or torrents to download software. Research shows that these are commonly monetized by promoting PUAs, using the same bundling method. Check "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar options when installing software, especially if it is free. Deselect all bundled apps and only then finish the installation. Avoid clicking intrusive ads, especially when visiting dubious websites. If you click an ad that redirects you to gambling, adult dating, pornography, or other untrustworthy websites, close the site and check the list of installed extensions, add-ons, and plug-ins on your browser, or programs on your computer. Remove unwanted/unknown applications immediately. If your computer is already infected with QuickCouponFinder, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
