OnTargetYoga Toolbar

Also Known As: OnTargetYoga browser hijacker
Damage level: Medium

What is hp.myway.com?

OnTargetYoga is a dubious application developed by Mindspark Interactive Network that offers various yoga/meditation tips, thereby attempting to give the impression of legitimacy. In fact, this app is likely to infiltrate systems without permission.

Furthermore, it promotes a dubious search engine - hp.myway.com. Therefore, OnTargetYoga is classed as a potentially unwanted application (PUA) and a browser hijacker.

hp.myway.com browser hijacker

This app targets Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. Following infiltration, OnTargetYoga assigns the new tab URL, default search engine, and homepage options to hp.myway.com. These changes may seem insignificant, but users are unable to revert them.

Research shows that OnTargetYoga continues to reassign options when attempts are made to change them. Therefore, returning browsers to their previous states becomes impossible and, ultimately, users are encouraged to visit hp.myway.com when they open a new browser tab or search via the URL bar.

This significantly diminishes the web browsing experience. Furthermore, OnTargetYoga is currently not confirmed to record information, however, many browser hijackers do by gathering IP addresses, URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, and other data that is likely to contain personal details.

Recorded information is later shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who generate revenue by misusing it. Therefore, data tracking can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. In any case, all browser-hijacking applications must be eliminated immediately.

Mindspark Interactive Network has released dozens of browser hijackers identical to OnTargetYoga including QuickPDFMerger, EverydayMemo, and OnlineFormFinder - these are just some examples from many.

These apps offer different functionality, but have identical behavior - they help developers to generate revenue by promoting hp.myway.com. In most cases, browser hijackers offer 'useful features' simply to trick users to install. Browser-hijacking applications deliver no real value for regular users.

How did OnTargetYoga install on my computer?

OnTargetYoga is free for anyone to download on its official website, however, developers also promote this application using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" - stealth installation of potentially unwanted applications together with regular software/apps.

Developers hide "bundled" apps within "Custom/Advanced" settings (or other sections) of the download/installation processes - they do not disclose this information properly.

Furthermore, many users are likely to rush these procedures and skip steps. This behavior often leads to inadvertent installation of PUAs - users expose their systems to risk of various infections and compromise their privacy.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

To prevent installation of browser hijackers such as OnTargetYoga, be very cautious when browsing the Internet and downloading and installing software. Select "Custom/Advanced" settings and carefully analyze each step of the download/installation processes. Opt-out of additionally-included programs and decline offers to download/install them.

We recommend that you download apps from official sources only, using direct download links. You should avoid using third party downloaders/installers, since developers monetize by them promoting ("bundling") rogue programs.

Furthermore, potentially unwanted applications are often distributed using intrusive advertisements that redirect to malicious sites and execute scripts that download/install PUAs (or even high-risk malware). Most of these ads seem legitimate, since developers invest time and resources into their design, but they typically lead to dubious websites (gaming, adult dating, etc.).

Most are delivered by adware-type apps. Therefore, if you experience suspicious redirects, check the list of installed applications/browser plug-ins and eliminate any suspicious entries.

The key to computer safety is caution. If your computer is already infected with OnTargetYoga, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
