Crtmatix.com POP-UP Redirect

Also Known As: crtmatix.com pop-up
Type: Adware
Damage level: Medium

What is crtmatix.com?

The Internet is full of rogue websites (such as trying.com, websnewsdate.com, cprmatix.com, and so on) that are very similar or even identical to crtmatix.com. This website causes redirects to various other untrustworthy sites. Most users arrive at crtmatix.com unintentionally.

Potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) force redirects to it. Many users install PUAs inadvertently. These rogue applications also deliver intrusive advertisements and record user-system information.

crtmatix.com pop-up

Immediately after infiltration, potentially unwanted applications randomly open new tabs/windows in browsers and redirect users to crtmatix.com, which then causes even more (typically two to three) redirects to other untrustworthy web pages that could be malicious and infiltrate computers with high-risk infections.

Another negative aspect of PUAs is intrusive ads: they tend to deliver advertisements (in the form of coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, etc.) that diminish the browsing experience, since they are often displayed through tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site and conceal underlying content.

Furthermore, they usually lead to untrustworthy (potentially malicious) websites. Some are designed to run scripts that download and install other potentially unwanted applications. In addition, PUAs collect data, including IP addresses, search queries, keystrokes, visited websites, geolocations, etc.

Later, the gathered data (that might also contain personal or sensitive information) is shared with third parties, potentially, cyber criminals, and used to generate revenue. These actions can lead to serious problems, such as privacy or browsing safety issues or even identity theft.

Some PUAs reduce computer performance, since the run background processes/tasks. We strongly advise you to eliminate PUAs immediately.

In summary, most PUAs are promoted as 'useful applications' that provide various features/tools, however, few deliver the functionality promised. They may differ slightly, offering different features, but most share the same purpose - to generate revenue for their developers. In doing so, they often cause privacy issues and other problems.

How did adware install on my computer?

PUAs can be downloaded from their official websites, however, few are installed this way. They are more commonly installed together with installations of ad-supportive and/or free software. Software developers use the "bundling" method - stealth installation of third party apps such as PUAs with regular software.

To achieve successful installation, developers hide bundled potentially unwanted applications in "Advanced", "Custom" and other settings of the installation dialogs.

Therefore, information regarding the presence of PUAs is not properly disclosed, and by skipping installation steps (without carefully studying them), many users allow these unwanted applications to be installed. In some cases, PUAs installed through ads execute scripts designed to download and install unwanted applications.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

To avoid these installations, download software from official and trustworthy sources only, and avoid using torrents or third party software downloaders. Do not skip installation steps when installing software. Look for any unwanted offers in "Custom", "Advanced" and other options - deselect them and only then finish the installation.

Avoid clicking intrusive advertisements - they may seem legitimate, but some redirect users to untrustworthy websites such as gambling, pornography, adult dating, etc. If you clicked one of these ads and were redirected to an untrustworthy/suspicious website, check your browser for unwanted/unknown extensions, plug-ins, and add-ons and remove them.

If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
