Cpokotex.com POP-UP Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is cpokotex.com?
cpokotex.com is a rogue website that is very similar to other sites of this type (including trafficmarket.pro, trkredir.com, g.results.supply, etc.).
The site is designed to cause redirects to other untrustworthy sites. In most cases, users arrive at cpokotex.com inadvertently - they are redirected to it by potentially unwanted applications (PUAs). These rogue applications are usually installed unintentionally and in addition to redirects, deliver intrusive advertisements and collect data.
Once installed, PUAs continually open new browser tabs/windows and redirect users to cpokotex.com, which then provokes additional (typically two or three) redirects to other potentially malicious/untrustworthy sites. Redirects to these websites can result in high-risk computer infections.
In addition, most PUAs of this type deliver coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, and other similar advertisements that are displayed via tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site and conceal underlying content. The presence of these ads is annoying, and clicking them can result in redirects to other untrustworthy websites.
Some cause execution of scripts that download and install potentially unwanted applications. Furthermore, most PUAs generate revenue by causing unwanted redirects, displaying ads, and collecting/sharing data as well.
PUAs gather information (such as IP addresses, keystrokes, URLs of visited websites, geo-locations, search queries, etc.) and then sell it to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals). The recorded data might contain personal/sensitive details that are misused by third parties.
This poses a direct threat to your privacy and browsing safety. Some users could end up experiencing even more serious problems such as identity theft. We recommend that you remove any installed PUAs immediately.

Most PUAs are very similar or identical. Their only purpose is to generate revenue by gathering and sharing data, deploying intrusive advertisements, and causing unwanted redirects. Developers often trick users into downloading them by offering "useful" features, however, few PUAs provide the features promised or give any real value for regular users .
How did adware install on my computer?
Potentially unwanted applications can usually be downloaded from their official websites, however, they PUAs are more commonly installed through intrusive advertisements (capable of running certain scripts) or when software developers use the "bundling" method.
Bundling is a deceptive marketing method used by PUAs developers to install PUAs together with regular software/programs. Developers usually do not disclose information about these installations properly and hide potentially unwanted applications in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar sections of the installation processes.
Software developers are aware that many users skip installation steps without checking the settings, and they use this behaviour to their advantage.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To avoid installation of PUAs, download software using official/trustworthy sources. Do not use third party software downloaders/installers or torrents. Check "Advanced", "Custom", and other sections/settings of the installation processes - do not skip installation steps without first checking these settings.
Make sure that there are no checkboxes ticked by default indicating that you allow PUAs to be installed. If you notice various intrusive ads appearing, and they redirect you to untrustworthy websites (gambling, pornography, adult dating, etc.), check for any unwanted plug-ins, add-ons, and extensions installed on your browser, or suspicious programs installed on your computer.
Uninstall unknown/unwanted applications and/or programs immediately. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
