Redirectal.com POP-UP Redirect

Also Known As: redirectal.com pop-up
Type: Adware
Damage level: Medium

What is redirectal.com?

redirectal.com is just one of hundreds of rogue websites that include newsupdateunit.info, pog0da.com, and adx1.com. These sites are designed to redirect visitors to other untrustworthy/dubious (or potentially malicious) websites.

Most users arrive at redirectal.com unintentionally - they are redirected by potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) that are installed without users' consent. Furthermore, PUAs gather information and deliver ads.

Following successful installation, PUAs force browsers to open new tabs/windows and continually redirect users to rediretcal.com, which then causes additional redirects (about two or three) to other untrustworthy sites that are often malicious and might infiltrate computers with high-risk infections.

Furthermore, potentially unwanted applications deliver coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups and other similar intrusive ads that are displayed using tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site and conceal underlying content, significantly diminishing the overall browsing experience.

They also lead to untrustworthy sites or even execute scripts that download and install potentially unwanted applications. Furthermore, most PUAs generate revenue for developers by collecting data, such as geo-locations, keystrokes, search queries, URLs of visited websites, IP addresses, and so on.

The data is shared with third parties who misuse it to generate revenue. Some of the shared data might contain personal or sensitive details - a situation that can result in various problems relating to privacy or browsing safety. Some users might also encounter identity theft. We strongly recommend that you uninstall all PUAs immediately.

Most PUAs are similar or virtually identical. They generate revenue (by gathering and sharing data, deploying various intrusive advertisements, and causing unwanted redirects) for their developers and other third parties. PUA developers attempt to trick users into downloading them by offering "useful" features, however, few of these applications provide the features promised or give any real value to their users.

How did adware install on my computer?

Invariably, PUAs can be downloaded from their official websites, however, most are installed through intrusive advertisements or when software developers use the "bundling" method. Bundling is a deceptive marketing method used to install PUAs together with regular software.

Software developers often do not disclose information about such installations properly and hide potentially PUAs (or other bundled apps) in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar sections of the installation processes. Developers are aware that many users skip installation steps without checking the aforementioned settings, and they use this careless behaviour to their advantage.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

To prevent PUA installations, we strongly recommend that you download software (especially if it is free) using official, trustworthy sources and direct links.

Do not use third party software downloaders (or installers), torrents or other similar software. Check "Advanced", "Custom" and other sections/settings of the installation process - do not skip installation steps without first checking these settings.

If you encounter intrusive ads that redirect you to untrustworthy websites (such as gambling, pornography, adult dating etc.), check for unwanted/unknown plug-ins, add-ons, extensions or other similar applications installed on your browser. If you find any, uninstall them immediately.

If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
