SpringFiles Adware

Also Known As: Ads by SpringFiles
Type: Adware
Damage level: Medium

What is SpringFiles?

SpringFiles is a deceptive application that supposedly allows users to download various files (movies, songs, etc.) free of charge.

This functionality may seem legitimate and useful, however, SpringFiles is categorized as a potentially unwanted application and adware. There are three main reasons for these negative associations: 1) stealth installation without users' consent; 2) tracking of browsing activity, and; 3) display of intrusive advertisements.

SpringFiles adware

As with most adware, SpringFiles records information relating to browsing activity. The collected data (IP addresses, URLs visited, search queries, etc,) usually contains personal details that developers share with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals). These people generate revenue by misusing private information.

Therefore, data tracking can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. This application is also known to display intrusive advertisements.

Coupons, banners, pop-ups, and other intrusive ads are delivered using tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any visited site, and thus often conceal underlying content and diminish the browsing experience. Furthermore, they can redirect to infectious websites and execute scripts designed to download/install malware.

Therefore, even a single accidental click might result in high-risk computer infections. In summary, SpringFiles adware should be uninstalled immediately.

SpringFiles shares many similarities with dozens of other adware-type applications, including QuizScope, CreatiMail, and PenWes. All offer unique feature, however, these claims are merely attempts to give the impression of legitimacy.

Most adware-type applications are designed only to generate revenue for the developers, and thus deliver no real value for regular users. Unwanted apps gather sensitive data and deliver intrusive ads, thereby posing a threat to your privacy and internet browsing safety.

How did SpringFiles install on my computer?

This adware is free for anyone to download on its official website, however, SpringFiles is also distributed using intrusive advertisements and a deceptive marketing method called "bundling". Therefore, it is very likely to infiltrate computers without permission. "Bundling" is stealth installation of third party apps with regular programs.

Developers hide "bundled" apps within "Custom/Advanced" settings (or other sections) of the download/installation processes. Furthermore, many users click advertisements, rush download/installation procedures, and skip steps - behavior that often leads to inadvertent installation of unwanted apps.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

To prevent this situation, be very cautious when browsing the internet and downloading/installing software. Remember that intrusive advertisements usually seem legitimate, since developers invest considerable effort into their design, however, most redirect to dubious websites, such as gambling, adult dating, pornography, and so on.

If you encounter these ads, immediately check the list of installed applications/browser add-ons and eliminate any suspicious entries. Furthermore, select "Custom/Advanced" settings and carefully analyze all steps of the download/installation processes. During the process, deselect additional apps and decline offers to download/install them.

You are also advised to avoid using third party download/installation tools, since developers monetize them by promoting rogue apps.

Software should be downloaded from official sources only, using direct download links. The key to computer safety is caution. If your computer is already infected with SpringFiles, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this adware.
