Local Weather Radar Now Browser Hijacker

Also Known As: search.hlocalweatherradarnow.com redirect
Damage level: Medium

What is Local Weather Radar Now?

Local Weather Radar Now is presented as a legitimate weather forecast application. Judging on appearance alone, this app may seem legitimate and useful, however, Local Weather Radar Now is categorized as a potentially unwanted application (PUA) and a browser hijacker.

This application stealthily infiltrates systems without users’ permission. In addition, Local Weather Radar Now promotes a fake search engine (search.hlocalweatherradarnow.com) and records information relating to browsing habits.

search.hlocalweatherradarnow.com browser hijacker

Local Weather Radar Now targets popular browsers including Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. After successful infiltration, it assigns the new tab URL, homepage, and default search engine options to search.hlocalweatherradarnow.com. These changes may seem insignificant, however, users are unable to revert them.

Local Weather Radar Now achieves this by blocking access and reassigning settings when attempts are made to change them. Therefore, returning browsers to their previous states becomes impossible and users are encouraged to visit search.hlocalweatherradarnow.com when they open a new browser tab/window or simply search via the URL bar.

In addition, search.hlocalweatherradarnow.com is a useless search engine, since it generates no unique results - it simply redirects users to search.yahoo.com each time a search query is entered. Therefore, users end up searching the web via Yahoo, rendering search.hlocalweatherradarnow.com redundant.

Local Weather Radar Now and search.hlocalweatherradarnow.com record information relating to browsing activity. The list of collected data types usually includes (but is not limited to) search queries, URLs visited, pages viewed, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, and geolocations.

This information might contain personal details that developers share with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who generate revenue by misusing private data. Therefore, information tracking can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft.

We strongly recommend that you eliminate the Local Weather Radar Now browser hijacker and never return to search.hlocalweatherradarnow.com.

There are dozens of browser-hijacking applications virtually identical to Local Weather Radar Now. The list of examples includes (but is not limited to) Bible Verses, Easy Forms Now, Easy Speed Test App, and many others. By offering "useful features", apps such as Local Weather Radar Now attempt to give the impression of legitimacy.

Following infiltration, however, they provide no real value for regular users. Browser-hijacking applications cause unwanted redirects and gather information, thereby diminishing the browsing experience and posing a threat to your privacy.

How did Local Weather Radar Now install on my computer?

This browser hijacker has an official download website, however, as mentioned above, Local Weather Radar Now often infiltrates systems without permission, since these browser hijackers are often distributed using intrusive advertisements (coupons, banners, pop-ups, etc.) and a deceptive marketing method called "bundling".

Intrusive advertisements promote browser hijackers by redirecting to dubious websites and running scripts that download/install certain apps. "Bundling" on the other hand is stealth installation of third party apps together with regular software. Developers are not honest enough to adequately disclose installation of browser-hijacking apps.

They are hidden behind "Custom/Advanced" settings (or other sections) of the download/installation processes. Furthermore, many users rush these procedures and click various ads, often leading inadvertent installation of rogue apps including Local Weather Radar Now.

The main reasons for computer infections of this type are poor knowledge of these threats and careless behavior.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

The key to computer safety is caution. Therefore, pay close attention during the download/installation processes and when browsing the Internet. Select "Custom/Advanced" settings and carefully analyze each step of the download/installation processes. Opt-out of all additionally-included programs and decline offers to download/install them.

Software should be downloaded from official sources only, preferably via direct download links. Developers often monetize third party downloaders/installers by "bundling" rogue apps. Therefore, these tools should not be used. Be aware that intrusive ads typically seem legitimate, and yet they redirect to dubious websites (gambling, pornography, adult dating, and similar).

These ads are usually delivered by adware-type applications and, therefore, if you encounter them frequently, uninstall all suspicious applications and browser plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with Local Weather Radar Now, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
