ProMediaConverter removal instructions
What is ProMediaConverter?
ProMediaConverter (also known as ProMediaConverter Promoter) is supposed to operate as a file converter that supports various file formats, including audio and video files. Simply said, it is advertised as tool that converts files directly from a user's browser. However, this application is classified as adware, a potentially unwanted application (PUA) that feeds its users with various advertisements. Additionally, this app gathers various information (browsing data).
Like most adware-type apps, ProMediaConverter displays/opens various surveys, coupons, banners, pop-up ads and so on. It is not recommended to click them, it is very likely that they will open untrustworthy, deceptive websites or run scripts that will download/install other unwanted apps. Some examples of advertisements that ProMediaConverter app displays can be found in the screenshots below. Furthermore, this app collects browsing data. To be more precise, it records data such as user's IP addresses, URLs of visited websites, entered search queries, geolocations and other similar information. There are many cases when adware developers share recorded details with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue. To avoid redirects to questionable pages, unwanted downloads or installations and problems related to privacy, browsing safety or even identity theft, we recommend to uninstall the ProMediaConverter as soon as possible.

Other examples of adware-type apps are See Scenic Elf, CraniumCapacity Ads and Clicker. As a rule, adware-type apps and other PUAs are promoted as tools that supposed to deliver some useful features. However, most of the times apps of this type do not operate as they supposed to and are designed to generate revenue for their developers by feeding users with unwanted ads, causing unwanted redirects and collecting data. These are the main reasons why various PUAs should not be trusted (used).
How did ProMediaConverter install on my computer?
Sometimes unwanted apps can be downloaded intentionally (from some supposedly official websites). Nevertheless, more often than not people download and install them unwillingly/unintentionally. One way to cause unintentional downloads/installations is to click ads that are designed to run scripts that download/install unwanted apps. In other cases people are tricked into doing it by including (bundling) unwanted apps into download or installation setups of other software. As a rule, information about it is usually hidden in setup's options like "Custom", "Advanced" and so on. Quite often people do not check these settings and leave them unchanged, that is how they unintentionally allow for various PUAs to be downloaded or installed.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
We recommend to download all applications/software using trustworthy, official websites and direct download links. Third party software downloaders/installers, tools such as torrent clients, eMule (and other Peer-to-Peer networks) or any other similar sources are often used to distribute unwanted apps. We do not recommend to download programs using them. Furthermore, always check what are the "Advanced", "Custom" and other settings of any download or installation setup and deselect offers to install (or download) unwanted apps. Intrusive ads should not be trusted too, very often they redirect users to questionable pages or run scripts designed to download/install PUAs. Typically, ads of this type are displayed on untrustworthy pages related to gambling, pornography, adult dating etc. If intrusive ads appear/unwanted redirects occur often, then we recommend to check the web browser and to see if there are any unwanted extensions, plug-ins or add-ons installed on it. Remove all unwanted, unknown or suspicious apps as soon as possible. It should be done with unwanted programs that are installed on the operating system too. If your computer is already infected with ProMediaConverter, we recommend running a scan with Spyhunter for Windows to automatically eliminate this adware.
