Prevent redirects caused by the filerio.in website

Also Known As: Ads by filerio.in
Type: Adware
Damage level: Medium

What is filerio.in?

filerio[.]in offers a file hosting service. There is nothing wrong with services of this type, however, this particular web page contains rogue ads, causes redirects to other dubious pages, and is used to host software 'cracks' (illegal tools).

To avoid unwanted downloads, installations, redirects to dubious pages and other problems, we recommend that you avoid filerio[.]in and its file hosting service.

filerio.in pop-up redirects

People who use filerio[.]in are redirected to dubious, deceptive web pages. One example is a scam page that displays a fake virus alert notification - this page tricks people into believing that their computers are infected with viruses and promotes a dubious application (anti-virus software).

Websites of this type cannot be trusted. Furthermore, filerio[.]in leads to other rogue pages that contain dubious content. For example, they promote potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) such as browser hijackers, adware-type apps, and so on. If installed, these feed users with unwanted advertisements, gather user-information, change browser settings, and so on.

It is possible that some of the pages opened through filerio[.]in might be used to promote malicious programs. Furthermore, filerio[.]in might display ads that, if clicked, open dubious (potentially malicious) pages or lead to unwanted download and installation of rogue applications.

As mentioned, this site hosts software 'cracks'. This software is illegal and often does not operate as promised. In many cases, these programs cause download and installation of high-risk malware such as ransomware. A further problem with filerio[.]in is that it asks visitors for permission to show notifications.

Allowing pages such as filerio[.]in to show notifications leads to annoying, unwanted notifications, various ads, and so on. Furthermore, clicking them can lead to untrustworthy web pages and unwanted downloads/installations. Therefore, filerio[.]in and other similar pages should not be trusted or used.

Some examples of other pages similar to filerio[.]in are nitroflare[.]com, mysuccesspaths[.]com, and convert2mp3[.]net. They are supposedly useful and harmless, however, most cause unwanted redirects, ask to show unwanted notifications, and so on. In addition, filerio[.]in is used to host illegal software.

How did adware install on my computer?

Typically, people download and install unwanted apps (browser hijackers, adware and PUAs) through deceptive advertisements or when they are "bundled" into set-ups of other software. This is the most common way to trick people into unwanted downloads/installations.

Developers hide information about potentially unwanted apps in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar sections of software download or installation set-ups. Furthermore, users who perform downloads and installations without checking the settings often cause download/installation of various unwanted or even malicious software.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

Download all software from official pages and use direct links. Install software with care, check all "Custom" and "Advanced" settings/options, checkboxes ticked by default, and dismiss any offers to download or install unwanted apps. Avoid visiting untrustworthy websites (gambling, pornography, adult dating, and so on) and do not click ads displayed on them.

These usually redirect to dubious, potentially malicious websites. Unwanted redirects and intrusive ads are often caused by potentially unwanted apps installed on the system. If this is a common problem, we recommend that you check installed apps on the browser (extensions, add-ons, plug-ins) and remove all unwanted entries.

The same applies to unknown, suspicious programs installed on the operating system/computer. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
