Get TV Easy browser hijacker removal instructions

What is Get TV Easy?

Developers of Get TV Easy offer access to various TV streaming websites from browsers, however, once this software is installed, it changes browser settings to promote a fake search engine. In summary, this app is a potentially unwanted application (PUA) and a browser hijacker. Additionally, Get TV Easy collects information relating to users' browsing activities and developers distribute the details using another PUA called Hide My Searches. Most people download and install apps of this type unintentionally.

search.gettveasy.com browser hijacker

Most PUAs (browser hijackers) can be installed on browsers such as Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and/or Internet Explorer. After installation, they change settings such as the default search engine, homepage, and new tab URL to the address of a fake search engine. Get TV Easy assigns them to search.gettveasy.com. Therefore, users of Get TV Easy are forced to visit search.gettveasy.com when they open a hijacked browser, new tab, or enter search queries into the URL bar. To undo or change settings appointed by Get TV Easy, users must uninstall the software, otherwise it will reassign settings when attempts are made to change them. Note that search.gettveasy.com is a fake search engine, since it provides results generated by Yahoo. I.e., when used, it simply redirects to search.yahoo.com. Search engines that do not generate unique results are useless. Furthermore, Get TV Easy records information such as IP addresses, entered search queries, URLs of opened web pages, geolocations, and so on. Developers send the data to other parties who misuse it to generate revenue. These third parties might include cyber criminals, and data collected by Get TV Easy might contain personal details. Browser hijackers (and fake search engines promoted through them) can lead to problems with privacy and browsing safety. In some cases, they can steal users' identities. For these reasons, we recommend that you uninstall Get TV Easy, Hide My Searches, and other PUAs immediately.

Other examples of browser hijackers are uTab, PDFPros, and Transit Schedules. These apps are supposedly useful tools that include various features, and so on. In fact, they are useless and designed only to generate revenue for the developers by collecting data and causing redirects to dubious sites.

How did Get TV Easy install on my computer?

Most people download and install potentially unwanted apps such as browser hijackers unintentionally. This usually happens when people are tricked into these downloads/installations by software developers who distribute PUAs through the set-ups of other software. To achieve this, they hide information about extra offers in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar parts of the set-ups. Furthermore, many people do not check these settings/options, leaving them unchanged. These behaviour can lead to inadvertent installation/download of PUAs. Clicking deceptive ads can also lead to inadvertent download/installation of unwanted apps - these ads run scripts that download/install unwanted software.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

Software should be downloaded using official websites and direct download links. Third party downloaders, installers, unofficial websites, Peer-to-Peer networks (such as eMule, torrent clients) and other tools or sources of this type should not be trusted. All software should be downloaded and installed carefully. Check all "Custom", "Advanced", and other settings that are available in the download or installation setup. Dismiss any offers to install or download unwanted software before completing the setup. Do not click advertisements displayed on dubious websites. They often cause redirects to untrustworthy (potentially, malicious) web pages. Typically, ads of this type are displayed on pages relating to gambling, adult dating, pornography, and so on. If your browser opens dubious websites and/or displays unwanted, intrusive advertisements, check the list of extensions, add-ons, and plug-ins installed on the browser and remove all suspicious, unwanted entries. The same should be applied to unwanted programs installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with Get TV Easy, we recommend running a scan with Spyhunter for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
