How to stop redirects to the revmake.com rogue website

Also Known As: revmake.com pop-up
Damage level: Medium

What is revmake[.]com?

revmake[.]com is similar to other sites of this type such as routgpushs[.]com, procontent[.]me, and exclusivenotifications[.]com. When opened, this rogue site opens other untrusted websites or presents visitors with dubious content. In most cases, browsers open these web pages due to potentially unwanted applications (PUA) installed on the system.

Therefore, people do not generally visit websites such as revmake[.]com intentionally. PUAs also collect user-system information and display intrusive advertisements.

revmake[.]com pop-up redirects

When opened, revmake[.]com immediately opens about two or three other untrustworthy websites or displays deceptive content. This depends on the visitor's geolocation. When sites such as revmake[.]com are opened, they present visitors with dubious content and ask them to verify that they are not robots.

The verification button is often hidden within another pop-up, which asks for permission to show notifications. These rogue sites trick people into allowing them to show notifications, however, they might also be designed to trick them into clicking a button, a link that redirects users to an untrustworthy website.

In any case, neither revmake[.]com nor sites opened through it can be trusted. Furthermore, installed PUAs might gather data such as users' geolocations, addresses of visited websites, entered search queries, IP (Internet Protocol) addresses, and other user-system details.

They might also collect private details. The developers responsible for these apps share the information with other parties (potentially cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue. PUAs also feed users with unwanted ads. For example, various pop-up ads, coupons, banners, surveys, etc.

If clicked, these open untrustworthy (or even malicious) web pages or run scripts that download and install other unwanted apps. Therefore, PUAs should be uninstalled immediately. If not, they might cause privacy/browsing safety issues or even identity theft.

Most PUAs generate revenue for their developers by feeding users with advertisements, collecting information, and causing redirects to rogue websites. Ironically, most PUAs are advertised as 'useful and legitimate' apps, however, most do not operate as advertised and simply cause problems. Do not trust any PUAs - the best option is to uninstall them immediately.

How did adware install on my computer?

Typically, unwanted apps are installed through intrusive ads that users intentionally (or accidentally) click, or when developers use a deceptive marketing method called "bundling". They use this to trick people into downloading and/or installing potentially unwanted apps with other regular software.

Typically, this is achieved by not disclosing information about additionally-included apps and hiding it in "Custom", "Advanced", "Manual", or other similar parts of the download or installation set-ups. When people download or install software without checking any settings available in the setup, they grant permission for PUAs to be downloaded and installed by default.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

The best way to download programs and files is using official, trustworthy websites, and direct download links (especially if software is free). Do not use third party downloaders, installers, Peer-to-Peer networks such as torrent clients, eMule (or other tools of this kind), unofficial websites, and so on.

Handle all downloads/installations properly: study each setup, check "Advanced", "Custom" and other similar sections and dismiss offers to download or install additionally-included, unwanted apps. Do not click ads, especially if they are displayed on sites relating to gambling, pornography, adult dating, and so on.

Typically, these ads lead to other dubious web pages or start download/installations of unwanted applications. If your browser causes redirects to dubious web pages or unwanted ads appear on each visited page, remove all unwanted extensions, plug-ins, and add-ons and see if the problem persists.

Additionally, uninstall programs of this type from the computer. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
