Stop getting redirects to/from witratensony.pro

Also Known As: witratensony.pro pop-up
Damage level: Medium

What is witratensony[.]pro?

Witratensony[.]pro is a rogue site, sharing many similarities with celeb-secret.liveborn2bahick.comdreamteammyfriend.com and numerous others. It operates by generating redirects to other compromised or even malicious websites, and by presenting users with highly dubious content.

In most cases users access this website unwillingly. The vast majority of visitors enter witratensony[.]pro through redirects generated by intrusive ads or by PUAs (potentially unwanted applications).

It is pertinent to mention, that these undesirable applications do not need express user consent to invade their devices. PUAs cause redirects to various hazardous webpages, deliver invasive advertisement campaigns and track data.

witratensony[.]pro pop-up redirects

Promoted by both intrusive adverts and PUAs; when visited, witratensony[.]pro course of action depends on visitors' geolocations. It learns this data by checking users' IP (Internet Protocol) addresses. Once it has this information, it either redirects visitors elsewhere and/or begins force-feeding them questionable content (e.g. clickbait).

It is worthy of noting, that this site misemploys browser notifications. By hiding the "Allow" option beneath clickbait, it tricks users into consenting to its notifications.

There are thousands of examples of clickbait, it can be expressed in written statements/requests (e.g. "Click here to view viral videos/images/content", "Tap 'Allow' to continue to this website", "Press 'Allow' to verify that you're not a robot", "Your page is loading, click here to proceed" and etc.) and/or through visual cues (e.g. by displaying a loading video and a pop-up widow, with the latter suggesting that users need to consent/click something before viewing and similar).

When users are fooled into allowing witratensony[.]pro browser notifications, it begins delivering invasive ad campaigns. These adverts are more than just minor annoyances, they are also considered a safety threat.

Invasive advertisements redirect to untrustworthy and malignant websites, and in some cases they can execute scripts, designed to make rogue downloads/installs of PUAs. Unwanted apps also generate similar redirects and can run intrusive ad campaigns.

The latter (e.g. pop-ups, surveys, banners, coupons, etc.) seriously diminish browsing quality, as they can slow down browsing and overlay page content. Additionally, PUAs spy on users' browsing habits and gather their personal information (IP address, geolocation and real-life personal details).

This data is very sensitive and since it is passed onto third parties, it is consequently misused for financial gain - there is no guarantee that this intel won't be employed for criminal purposes. In short, presence of data tracking content within systems can lead to severe privacy issues, endanger users' financial and personal safety, even culminate in identity theft.

To protect both devices and users, all suspicious applications and/or browser extensions/plug-ins must be removed immediately upon detection.

PUAs are released by the thousand and spread very quickly. The often appear legitimate and utterly harmless, further tempting users with various "useful" and "beneficial" features. Due to these reasons, many users are tricked into downloading/installing them and/or deeming these app as innocuous software, thereby allowing it to slip in alongside desired content.

Despite how functional undesirable applications may appear - they have no genuine value to users. In most instances, the abilities and features they advertise are nonoperational.

It must be stressed, that the only purpose of PUAs is to generate revenue for their developers and nothing else. Therefore, instead of working as promised, they cause redirects to unreliable/malignant sites, deliver invasive advert campaigns and gather vulnerable information.

How did adware install on my computer?

Some PUAs have "official" download websites, where they are usually offered for "free". They can also infiltrate systems through installation packs. The tactic of pre-packing ordinary software with unwanted content is called "bundling". This method is strongly favored by undesirable application designers.

Said creators are well aware of user tendency to rush through install procedures, i.e. ignore terms, skip steps, use pre-set options, so on - and they abuse this haste to further their malignant product. Another proliferator of PUAs is intrusive advertising. Once clicked, these ads can execute scripts to download/install rogue apps.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

It is highly recommended to always use trustworthy and verified download sources. Third party downloaders are deemed untrustworthy and therefore advised against. When downloading/installing software users should read terms, in order to find out whether there is no foul play involved.

Additionally, they are to use "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out/decline supplementary apps/features. Prudent browsing is strongly encouraged (e.g. avoiding suspicious sites and adverts, etc.).

It should be known, that invasive advertisements usually look completely ordinary, however they often redirect to unreliable websites (e.g. pornography, adult-dating, gambling and others). If users were to experience ads/redirects of this type, they should immediately check their systems.

If any dubious applications and/or browser extensions/plug-ins are found - they are to be removed without delay. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
