Prevent browsers from causing unwanted redirects to videommm.pro

Also Known As: videommm.pro pop-up
Damage level: Medium

What is videommm[.]pro ?

videommm[.]pro is a dubious website. If opened, it forces people to visit other untrustworthy websites or displays dubious content. There are many websites similar to videommm[.]pro. Other examples are mediasvideo[.]world, cudalbapt[.]com, and celeb-secret[.]live.

People rarely open these sites intentionally - they are redirected to them through clicked dubious ads or by potentially unwanted apps (PUAs) installed on browsers or operating systems. Additionally, most PUAs collect information relating to users' browsing habits and/or display intrusive ads.

videommm[.]pro pop-up redirects

Once opened, videommm[.]pro checks the visitor's IP address to determine what to do next. Depending on this information, it then displays dubious content or causes redirects to other untrustworthy web pages. Additionally, it asks permission to show notifications.

Sites such as videommm[.]pro often trick people into giving these permissions by displaying pop-ups that contain messages including "Your page is loading, press 'Allow' to continue", "Tap 'Allow' to verify, that you are not a robot", and so on. If allowed, these sites feed users with unwanted ads, notifications, and so on.

Note that videommm[.]pro can simply redirect visitors to other (usually, two or three) dubious sites, which might be designed to promote malicious or unwanted software. In any case, do not trust websites that are opened through videommm[.]pro or other similar sites.

Most PUAs collect browsing-related data such as users' IP addresses, geolocations, entered search queries, addresses of visited websites, and other information of this kind. Unfortunately, PUAs can also gather personal details. Developers share the information with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue.

When installed, many PUAs feed users with pop-up ads, coupons, banners, surveys, and so on. If clicked, these ads cause redirects to dubious websites or run scripts that download/install unwanted, potentially malicious applications.

In most cases, PUAs are advertised as tools that supposedly include useful features to enable people to browse the web more efficiently, and so on. In fact, they do not operate as advertised and simply help developers (including other parties) to generate revenue by enforcing unwanted redirects, displaying intrusive, often deceptive ads, and gathering details relating to users.

How did adware install on my computer?

People often download and install unwanted apps unintentionally when they click deceptive advertisements or during the download/installation processes of other, usually free, software. Generally, developers trick people into these unwanted installations/downloads using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling".

They include unwanted apps in the set-ups of other software and hide related information in "Advanced", "Custom", and other similar settings. They hope that people will leave settings available in the setups unchanged. People who fail to check them usually give permissions for PUAs to be downloaded/installed with other regular software.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

Do not download any files or software from unofficial websites, through Peer-to-Peer networks such as torrent clients, eMule, use third party installers, and so on. The safest way to download files and programs is using official websites and direct download links.

If a download or installation setup contains settings such as "Custom", "Advanced", etc., check them and decline offers to download/install additional, unwanted software. Do not click advertisements that are displayed on sites relating to gambling, adult dating, pornography, etc.

They can lead to potentially malicious websites or download/install unwanted apps. If the browser is already causing unwanted redirects or displays unwanted ads, check for installed unwanted apps (extensions, plug-ins, add-ons) and remove them immediately.

The same applies to unwanted software installed on the operating system/computer. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
