Also Known As: becausenightisbetter.com pop-up
Damage level: Medium

What is becausenightisbetter[.]com?

Similar to countless others, becausenightisbetter[.]com is a rogue website. Other relevant examples include youtubedownload.video, 1backlinks.com, ushwerallintra.info, etc. This page generates redirects to other untrustworthy and malicious sites, and presents visitors with dubious content.

Few users access becausenightisbetter[.]com intentionally - most are redirected by intrusive ads or Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUAs) already installed on the system.

Note that these apps infiltrate devices without explicit user permission. PUAs are designed to cause redirects, run intrusive advertisement campaigns, and gather sensitive information, relating to browsing activity.

becausenightisbetter[.]com pop-up redirects

When accessed, becausenightisbetter[.]com first checks visitors' IP addresses to learn their geolocations. According to this information users are then redirected elsewhere or presented with dubious, possibly harmful material.

Additionally, this web page asks users to enable browser notifications, the consent option to which it disguises within 'clickbait' ("Click Allow if you are not a robot"). If consent is granted, becausenightisbetter[.]com begins running intrusive ad campaigns (e.g. displays pop-ups, surveys, coupons, banners, etc.).

The resultant ads are more than just a nuisance, they are also a threat to device health. Once clicked, they can redirect to sale-oriented, untrustworthy, compromised, deceptive/scam and malicious websites. They can also be triggered (when clicked) to execute scripts designed to stealthily download/install PUAs.

As well generating redirects, unwanted applications can also run intrusive ad campaigns. By implementing various tools, they enable third party graphical content to be displayed on any site, thereby delivering ads that diminish the browsing experience - limiting browsing speed and web page visibility (and also carrying the aforementioned risks).

Most PUAs possess data tracking abilities, which they use to monitor users' browsing habits (URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries typed, etc.) and collect personal information (IP addresses, geolocations and other details). This vulnerable data can be shared with third parties and even end up in the hands of cyber criminals seeking to misuse it for profit.

To summarize, PUAs can cause browser/system infiltration and infections, lead to serious privacy issues, financial loss, and identity theft. Due to these threats posed to device and user safety, remove all suspect applications and browser extensions without delay.

PUAs typically have a legitimate appearance. They tempt users into downloading/installing them with offers of "useful" and "beneficial" features, however, these apps rarely work as advertised. The only purpose of all PUAs is to generate revenue for the developers, whilst regular users receive no value.

Rather than delivering any useful features, they redirect to untrustworthy and malicious sites, deliver intrusive ads, and track private data.

How did adware install on my computer?

PUAs are usually downloaded/installed together with other programs. This deceptive marketing tactic of packing normal software with unwanted or malicious content is called "bundling".

By rushing through the download/installation processes (e.g. ignoring terms, skipping steps, using pre-set options, etc.), users endanger their devices with potential system infiltration and infections. These apps can also be downloaded/installed without users' permission. When clicked, intrusive ads can execute scripts designed for this purpose.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

Research all content, before downloading/installing. Use only official and verified download sources. Download channels such as Peer-to-Peer sharing networks (BitTorrent, eMule, Gnutella, etc.), free file-hosting websites and other third party downloaders are classed as untrustworthy and should be avoided.

When downloading/installing, read the terms, study available options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings, and opt-out of any additional apps, tools, functions, etc. Intrusive advertisements often seem legitimate and harmless, however, they can redirect to dubious pages (e.g. pornography, adult-dating, gambling and others).

If you experience ads/redirects of this type, inspect the system and immediately remove all suspicious applications and/or browser extensions plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
