yeus.xyz redirect removal instructions
What is yeus.xyz?
yeus.xyz is one of many fake search engines, typically promoted through potentially unwanted applications (PUAs), which are also classified as browser hijackers. Research shows that yeus.xyz is promoted through at least two PUAs: CERX and Dorss APP. CERX is related to QIP, another browser hijacker. Generally, browser hijackers promote fake search engines by changing certain browser settings. Furthermore, many gather information relating to users' browsing habits. Browser hijackers are classed as PUAs, since people often download and install them unintentionally.
Typically, browser hijackers promote fake search engines by assigning them as the address of the default search engine, homepage, and new tab. In this case, Dorss APP and CERX set these addresses to yeus.xyz. Therefore, users are forced to visit yeus.xyz when they open a new browser window/tab or enter search queries into the URL bar. Research shows that these particular apps do not change the aforementioned settings, however, they detect when users search and then redirect them to yeus.xyz. Note that yeus.xyz is opened through srcw.xyz, another dubious web address. Futhermore, yeus.xyz is a fake search engine, since generates no unique results and can provide misleading results. Typically, the address of the fake search engine cannot be removed from the settings unless the browser hijacker that promotes it is uninstalled. Therefore, the only way to avoid being redirected to yeus.xyz (and srcw.xyz) is to uninstall CERX and Dorss APP. Furthermore, browser hijackers often gather IP addresses, entered search queries, geolocations, addresses of visited websites, and other browsing data. Some of these apps also record sensitive information. The developers sell the data to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue. These actions can cause problems relating to privacy, browsing safety, and some users might even become victims of identity theft.

To eliminate possible malware infections, scan your computer with legitimate antivirus software. Our security researchers recommend using Malwarebytes.
Developers often advertise browser hijackers as supposedly offering useful features, however, they are generally useless and designed only to help developers to generate revenue by gathering data and promoting fake search engines. It is not safe to have any browser hijacker installed on the browser or computer. Other examples of PUAs of this type include Gamers Buddy, Online TV Streams and Search Plus.
How did yeus.xyz install on my computer?
In most cases, people download and install PUAs through deceptive advertisements that they have clicked, or when PUAs are included into the set-ups of other (mainly free) software (this latter method is called "bundling"). Typically, information about these additionally-included apps is hidden in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar parts of the set-ups. People who fail to check and change these settings often grant permission for PUAs to be downloaded and/or installed with other, regular software. In other cases, PUAs are downloaded/installed when people click deceptive ads that run certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
We recommend that you download software from official websites only. Avoid using third party downloaders, installers, Peer-to-Peer networks (torrent clients, eMule, and so on), unofficial websites or other similar channels. Download and install software properly. Check all download/installation settings and dismiss offers to download/install unwanted apps. Do not click intrusive ads, especially if displayed on dubious websites - they can open other dubious, potentially malicious pages or start unwanted downloads/installations. Check the list of extensions, add-ons and plug-ins that are installed on the browser and remove all unknown, suspicious apps immediately. The same should be applied to software of this kind installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with browser hijackers, we recommend running a scan with Malwarebytes for Windows to automatically eliminate it.

If your download is managed by a download client, ensure that you decline offers to install advertised toolbars or applications that seek to change your homepage and default Internet search engine settings.
