Avoid downloading dubious content promoted by youtubetomp3.sc

Also Known As: Ads by youtubetomp3.sc
Type: Adware
Damage level: Medium

What is youtubetomp3[.]sc?

youtubetomp3[.]sc is an untrusted website designed to allow people to download MP3 files from YouTube URLs. In fact, this site infringes copyright laws and employs rogue advertising networks. Therefore, visitors to youtubetomp3[.]sc might be redirected to various untrusted, deceptive and malicious web pages.

You are strongly advised against using youtubetomp3[.]sc or other similar sites.

youtubetomp3[.]sc pop-up redirects

youtubetomp3[.]sc can redirect visitors to promotional/sale-oriented, untrusted/rogue, compromised, deceptive/scam and malicious pages. These redirects can occur through direct or indirect interaction with the content presented in websites using rogue advertising networks.

Visiting such web pages can lead to various issues. To elaborate, youtubetomp3[.]sc has been observed redirecting to a promotional site of a Potentially Unwanted Application (PUA), classified as a browser hijacker

This software operates by modifying browsers to promote bogus search engines, which typically cannot provide unique results and simply redirect to legitimate sites. Furthermore, browser hijackers can restrict or deny access to browser settings. The websites to which youtubetomp3[.]sc redirects can also host intrusive advertisements (pop-up, banners, coupons, surveys, etc.).

As well as redirecting to similarly dangerous pages, these ads can execute scripts to stealthily download/install rogue software. Prime examples of content infiltrated into systems in this manner are PUAs. These apps can have varied capabilities, as well as browser hijacking.

They can force-open untrusted/malicious websites and enable the placement of intrusive ads on any visited web page. Furthermore, most PUAs have data tracking capabilities. They monitor browsing activity (browsing and search engine histories) and collect personal information extracted from it (IP addresses, geolocations and other details).

PUA developers often monetize this data by sharing it with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) seeking to misuse it for profit. To summarize, the presence of unwanted applications (browser hijackers, adware, etc.) on devices can result in system infections, serious privacy issues, financial loss and even identity theft.

To ensure device integrity and user safety, you are strongly advised to remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins without delay.

There are thousands of websites employing rogue advertising networks on the web. This is a common monetization technique used by videovor.commagnetdl.comthepiratebay.orgKissanime and countless others. Therefore, use of rogue advertising networks is not exclusive to YouTube converters.

Regardless of which services these sites offer, or how they are presented, you should avoid them.

How did adware install on my computer?

Some PUAs have "official" download pages, however, these apps are often downloaded/installed with other programs. This deceptive marketing tactic of pre-packing normal products with unwanted or malicious additions is called "bundling".

Rushing downloads/installations (e.g. skimming or ignoring terms, skipping steps, using pre-set options, etc.) increases the risk of inadvertent installation of bundled content. Intrusive ads also proliferate these applications. When clicked, they can execute scripts designed to download/install PUAs without users' consent.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

All products should be researched to verify their legitimacy, prior to download/installation or purchase. You are advised to use official and trustworthy download sources.

Unofficial and free file-hosting (freeware) websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks (BitTorrent, eMule, Gnutella, etc.) and other third party downloaders commonly offer deceptive and bundled content, and should therefore be avoided.

When downloading/installing, it is important to read the terms, explore all available options, use the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings and opt-out of additional apps, tools, features, etc. Intrusive advertisements may seem legitimate and harmless, however, they can redirect to dubious web pages (e.g. gambling, pornography, adult-dating and others).

If you encounter these ads/redirects, check the system and immediately eliminate all dubious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
