SearchWorld browser hijacker removal instructions
What is SearchWorld?
SearchWorld is a browser hijacker which is designed to promote the toksearches.xyz address, a fake search engine. Like most browser hijackers, SearchWorld does that by changing certain browser settings. Additionally, this app may be designed to gather details related to user's browsing activities. Quite often users download and install browser hijackers unknowingly, therefore, they are called potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).
As a rule, browser hijackers promote fake search engines by making their address as an address of a fake search engine, homepage and/or new tab. SearchWorld changes these browser settings to toksearches.xyz. Therefore, users who have SearchWorld installed on a browser cannot avoid having to visit toksearches.xyz address when they open a browser, new tab and enter search queries into URL bar. This search engine is called fake because it displays results generated by Yahoo. It is worthwhile to mention that toksearches.xyz redirects users to search.yahoo.com via smashapps.net. It is common that users cannot undo the changes made by the installed browser hijacker unless they uninstall it. It means that toksearches.xyz can be removed from browser settings only when SearchWorld is no longer installed on it. As mentioned in the first paragraph, browser hijackers can be designed to gather various data. For example, addresses of visited web pages, entered search queries, geolocations, IP addresses. Also, they can be designed to collect sensitive, confidential details. What is worse, their developers could sell gathered information to third parties (potentially cyber criminals), or misuse it to generate revenue in other ways. As result, users may experience problems related to online privacy, browsing safety, and/or even become victims of identity theft. If SearchWorld (other browser hijacker) is installed on a browser and/or computer, then it should be uninstalled.

More examples of apps that are classified as browser hijackers too are Road Maps & Traffic, Play Game Now and Satellite And Earth Maps. It is common that their developers advertise them as apps that include various features, improve browsing experience and/or are useful in some other way. However, most browser hijackers are designed only to promote some fake search engine and are useless to their users.
How did SearchWorld install on my computer?
Usually users download and/or install potentially unwanted applications together with some other programs. To be more precise, when they are included in download and/or installation setups of other programs as additional offers. Typically, offers to download and/or install them can be declined in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings of setups. When users download and install programs that have PUAs included in their setups without changing the aforementioned settings, they allow for those apps to be downloaded and/or installed too. This distribution of unwanted apps is called "bundling". Additionally, PUAs can be downloaded and/or installed through ads, however, only by clicking advertisements that are designed to execute certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
It is advised to always check "Custom", "Advanced", "Manual" and other similar settings of any download or installation setup to make sure that it does not have any unwanted apps included in it. Offers to download and/or install unwanted software should be declined before completing software download and/or installation. Also, it is recommended to download software from official websites and use direct download links for that. It is not safe to download (or install) software from untrustworthy, unofficial websites, through torrent clients, eMule (or other Peer-to-Peer networks), third party downloaders, installers, etc. Intrusive ads that are displayed on questionable websites can open other sites of this kind or cause unwanted downloads, installations. Therefore, such ads should not be trusted/clicked. If there are any unwanted or suspicious apps (extensions, add-ons or plug-ins) installed on a browser, then they should be removed from it. The same should be applied to programs of this kind that are installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with SearchWorld, we recommend running a scan with Malwarebytes for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
