Also Known As: Congratulations! Netflix User! pop-up

What is Congratulations! Netflix User!?

This deceptive website may seem to be a legitimate website offering participation in a lottery to win a prize. In most cases, websites of this type are used to trick visitors into providing personal information or even transferring a certain sum of money.

Commonly, lottery scams and other deceptive websites are opened through deceptive advertisements, other untrusted web pages or by installed potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).

streamuberprogressivepplication[.]icu scam

Once visited, this website displays a pop-up window claiming that Netflix users have the chance to receive a reward for being loyal customers by spinning the wheel and then following further instructions. Commonly, visitors are asked to enter sensitive information (e.g., credit card details) or pay an administration (or other) fee.

These lottery scams and other deceptive websites of this kind should never be trusted. It is possible that scammers behind them could misuse provided information to steal identities, make fraudulent purchases and transactions, sell information to third parties (other cyber criminals), etc.

As mentioned, websites of this type are often opened by browsers when PUAs are installed on them. PUAs are designed to open dubious web pages and collect data relating to users' browsing habits. For example, IP addresses, entered search queries, addresses of visited pages, and geolocations. In some cases, they gather sensitive, personal details.

PUAs also feed users with intrusive advertisements (e.g., coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, etc.). When clicked, these can open other untrusted web pages or even run scripts designed to cause download/installation of rogue software.

Examples of similar scams are "Congratulations Walmart Shopper!", "Congratulations Walgreens Shopper!" and "Congratulations Dear Amazon Customer". In most cases, these sites suggest that visitors have the chance to win (or have won) a prize and ask them to provide certain information, pay bogus fees, etc.

If untrusted websites are regularly opened by browsers, it is very likely that PUAs are installed.

How did potentially unwanted applications install on my computer?

Typically, users download and install PUAs inadvertently by clicking deceptive ads that execute certain scripts, or by downloading/installing programs that have PUAs included in the set-ups. Commonly, PUAs are included as 'additional offers' in "Custom", "Advanced" and other settings.

Unwanted downloads and installations happen when users leave these settings unchecked and unchanged. This PUA distribution method is called "bundling".

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

You are advised to download files and programs only from official websites and via direct download links. Other sources/tools such as third party downloaders and installers, Peer-to-Peer networks (e.g., eMule, torrent clients), unofficial pages can be used to distribute PUAs or even malicious software.

Check all "Custom" and "Advanced" settings and decline offers to download or install potentially unwanted apps. Do not click advertisements that are displayed on dubious web pages, since they can open other dubious pages or cause unwanted downloads and installations.

Remove any unwanted, unknown extensions, add-ons and plug-ins that are installed on the browser. The same should be applied to programs of this kind that are installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with PUAs, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate them.
