How to remove apps designed to promote mol.biz web pages
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is mol[.]biz?
mol[.]biz websites (similar variations include mol1[.]biz, mol2[.]biz, mol3[.]biz, etc.) are designed to promote (open) untrusted web pages or display dubious content. There are many websites of this type, including, for example, hipermovies[.]icu, gdanstum[.]net and vviewpoint[.]biz.
Note that most users do not visit these websites intentionally - they are opened by installed potentially unwanted applications (PUAs), through deceptive advertisements, or other web pages of this kind.
Installed PUAs open web pages such as mol[.]biz sites in new browser windows or tabs. When opened/visited, they load dubious content or open about two or three other pages of this type. This depends on visitors' geolocations. Commonly, the websites demand permission to show notifications using 'clickbait' techniques.
I.e., they trick visitors into clicking the "Allow" button in a pop-up window. Research shows that at least two mol[.]biz pages (mol13[.]biz and mol16[.]biz) load notifications claiming that, by clicking "Allow" button, visitors will prove that they are not robots. If allowed, these pages start to display notifications with deceptive ads, links to untrusted pages, and other dubious content.
Furthermore, PUAs are designed to open dubious pages, track information, and serve advertisements. They often target information relating to users' browsing habits. For example, geolocations, entered search queries, addresses of visited sites, IP addresses.
In some cases, installed PUAs can access sensitive details as well. Furthermore, the developers sell the data to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) or misuse it to generate revenue in other ways. PUAs also feed users with intrusive advertisements. For example, coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups and other types of ads.
Users who click these ads often allow them to open untrusted, potentially malicious websites or even execute scripts designed to download and install unwanted applications. In summary, installation of PUAs can result in problems relating to online privacy and browsing safety, and some users may even become victims of identity theft.

Most PUAs do not improve the browsing experience, include any useful features, or are useful in other ways, even if they are advertised as legitimate apps. They are designed only to generate revenue for the developers by promoting websites, displaying ads, and gathering user-system information.
If PUAs are installed on the browser and/or computer, uninstalled it immediately. Note that users often download and install PUAs inadvertently.
How did adware install on my computer?
Typically, potentially unwanted apps are distributed by including them into the download/installation set-ups of other programs. This distribution method is called "bundling". Developers include PUAs into set-ups as 'additional offers'.
When users download and install software without changing "Custom", "Advanced" or other settings, they agree with offers to download and install additionally-included apps as well. Sometimes unwanted downloads and installations are caused by clicking deceptive advertisements that execute certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Files and programs should be downloaded only from official websites and through direct links. Unofficial websites, third party downloaders/installers, Peer-to-Peer networks (e.g., torrent clients, eMule), etc., are often used to distribute potentially unwanted, malicious apps.
Check "Advanced", "Custom" and "Manual" settings and decline offers to download or install additionally-included, potentially unwanted apps. Do not click advertisements that are displayed on dubious web pages, since they can open untrusted websites or cause download/installation of PUAs.
Remove any unwanted extensions, add-ons and plug-ins installed on the browser immediately. The same applies to software of this kind that is installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?
Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.
Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
