How to remove apps promoting tiktok-fun.com and similar web pages

Also Known As: Ads by tiktok-fun.com
Damage level: Medium

What is tiktok-fun[.]com?

tiktok-fun[.]com is an untrusted website designed to load dubious content or open other pages of this kind. Some examples of similar web pages include allfreshposts[.]com, hipermovies[.]icu and gdanstum[.]net

Note that most users do not visit these sites intentionally - they are usually opened by installed potentially unwanted applications (PUAs), via deceptive advertisements, or through other untrusted websites.

tiktok-fun[.]com pop-up redirects

At the time of research, tiktok-fun[.]com loaded adult content, however, it may load other dubious content or open about two or three untrusted pages. This depends on the geolocations of users who visit tiktok-fun[.]com. Like most websites of this type, tiktok-fun[.]com asks permission to show notifications.

You are advised against allowing these pages to show them: if allowed, the sites start to feed users with notifications that contain deceptive advertisements, links to untrusted pages, etc. As mentioned, websites such as tiktok-fun[.]com are commonly opened by installed PUAs.

Generally, these apps feed users with advertisements and gather information. They can feed users with coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups and other types of ads. You are advised against trusting or clicking ads displayed by PUAs - they can open dubious websites or sometimes even cause unwanted downloads and installations by running certain scripts.

Furthermore, PUAs often collect browsing data. For example, entered search queries, addresses of visited pages, IP addresses, geolocations. They could also be capable of accessing sensitive information. The developers misuse the information to generate revenue.

For example, they may sell it to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals). Users who have these apps installed on browsers and/or computers could experience issues relating to online privacy and browsing safety. Some might even become victims of identity theft. Therefore, potentially unwanted applications should never be downloaded or installed.

In summary, PUAs are often designed to promote dubious websites, serve ads and collect user-system information. Commonly, they are advertised as useful and legitimate, however, most are useless and can cause serious problems. Typically, users download and install PUAs inadvertently.

How did adware install on my computer?

In most cases, users download and install PUAs when they are included into the set-ups as 'additional offers' and users fail to decline them. Typically, these offers can be found and declined in "Advanced", "Custom", "Manual" or other settings of the set-ups.

This PUA distribution method is known as "bundling". In some cases, users cause unwanted downloads and installations by clicking deceptive advertisements that run certain scripts.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

Check all download/installation settings such as "Custom" and "Advanced" and decline offers to download or install unwanted software before completing the process. Files and programs should be downloaded only from official pages and through direct download links.

Other sources and tools can be used to distribute unwanted, even malicious apps. Some examples of sources of this kind are third party downloaders, Peer-to-Peer networks (torrent clients, eMule), unofficial websites, free file hosting pages. Note that third party installers can also cause unwanted installations.

Do not click advertisements that appear on untrusted, dubious websites, since they can open untrusted or even malicious pages, or cause unwanted downloads and installations. Remove any suspicious, unwanted extensions, add-ons and plug-ins that are installed on the browser.

The same applies to software of this kind that installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
