How to stop redirects to and from kangstools.com

Also Known As: kangstools.com pop-up
Damage level: Medium

What is kangstools[.]com?

kangstools[.]com is an untrusted website designed to present visitors with dubious content and/or redirect them to other rogue or possibly malicious sites. Few users access kangstools[.]com or similar web pages intentionally - most are redirected to them by intrusive advertisements or by Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUAs) already infiltrated into their devices.

This software does not need express user permission to be installed onto systems. PUAs cause redirects, run intrusive ad campaigns and collect browsing-related information.

kangstools[.]com pop-up redirects

When accessed, kangstools[.]com first checks visitors' IP (Internet Protocol) addresses to learn their geolocations. This information is key to determining the website's further course of action. To elaborate, whether users are redirected elsewhere and/or are presented with dubious material, depends on their geolocations.

Furthermore, these sites often redirect to rogue pages (e.g. caravane-plantes.com, somenewsabout.com, palnk.pw, etc.) that use deceptive tactics (clickbait) to trick visitors into enabling browser notifications. Should the notifications be enabled, the web pages then begin running intrusive ad campaigns.

The delivered ads diminish the browsing experience and also pose a threat to device/user safety. Once clicked, intrusive advertisements redirect to dangerous websites, and some can even stealthily download/install rogue software. PUAs are a prime example of content infiltrated into systems in this manner.

These apps can have various capabilities and they can be in different combinations. PUAs can force-open harmful pages and/or deliver intrusive advertisement campaigns. Most PUAs (regardless of other functionality) can track data.

They can monitor browsing activity (visited URLs, viewed web pages, searched queries, etc.) and collect sensitive information extracted from it (IP addresses, geolocations and other details). The gathered data usually contains personally identifiable information.

Furthermore, PUA developers monetize this information by sharing it with and/or selling it to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals). In summary, the presence of unwanted software on devices can lead to system infections, financial loss, serious privacy issues and even identity theft.

To ensure device integrity and user privacy, you are strongly advised to remove all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins without delay.

PUAs may seem legitimate and harmless. They lure users into download/installation with offers of various "useful" features, however, the advertised functions are rarely operational. The only purpose of these unwanted apps is to generate profit for the developers. Regular users receive no genuine value and can experience serious problems.

Rather than delivering any real value, PUAs force-upon untrusted and malicious sites, run intrusive ad campaigns and gather private data.

How did adware install on my computer?

PUAs are often downloaded/installed together with other products. This deceptive marketing technique of pre-packing regular software with unwanted or malicious additions is called "bundling".

By rushing through download/installation (e.g. ignoring terms, skipping steps and sections, using "Quick/Express" settings, etc.), many users risk unintentionally allowing bundled content into their devices. Intrusive advertisements proliferate PUAs as well.

When clicked, the ads can execute scripts to download/install these applications without users' permission. Some PUAs have "official" download web page.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

You are advised to research all software before download/installation. Use only official and verified download channels. Unofficial and free file-hosting websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks (BitTorrent, Gnutella, eMule), and other third party downloaders commonly offer harmful and bundled content, and are therefore untrusted and should be avoided.

When downloading/installing, read the terms, study all possible options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out of additional apps, tools, features, and so on. Intrusive advertisements typically seem legitimate, however, they can redirect to dubious and malicious sites (e.g. gambling, pornography, adult-dating, and many others).

If you encounter ads or redirects of this kind, inspect the system and remove all dubious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins immediately. In case of encounters with such adverts and/or redirects, the system must be inspected and all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins - immediately removed.

If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
