How to remove LogarithmicEntry from Mac?

What is LogarithmicEntry?

LogarithmicEntry functions not only as adware (advertising-supported software) but also a browser hijacker. It is designed to serve advertisements and promote address of some fake search engine by modifying certain browser settings. Also, it may be capable of collecting browsing-related, or even sensitive information. Typically, users download and install apps like LogarithmicEntry inadvertently, for this reason they are called potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).

LogarithmicEntry adware

In most cases apps like LogarithmicEntry serve pop-ups, banners, coupons, surveys and/or other ads that, if clicked, may open untrustworthy pages or even download and/or install unwanted software by running certain scripts. As mentioned in the introduction, LogarithmicEntry is designed promote a fake search engine. Typically, apps that function as browser hijackers make the address of a fake search engine as the address of a default search engine, homepage and new tab to an address so that users would visit it when they enter search queries into URL bar, open a browser or new tab. As a rule, such apps do not allow users to undo the changes that were made by them as they are installed. Additionally, LogarithmicEntry may be designed to collect browsing data. For example, IP addresses, geolocations, entered search queries, addresses of visited/opened sites. However, it may be designed to collect sensitive information as well. What is worse, gathered data could be sold to third parties (potentially cyber criminals) or misused to generate revenue in other ways. It means that apps like LogarithmicEntry may be the culprit of problems related to browsing safety, online privacy, or even identity theft.

SignalBalance is similar to many other PUAs of this type, for example, LearningActivity, MarketService and AnalyticParameter. It is common that they are advertised as useful, legitimate apps that supposed to include various features, improve web browsing experience, and/or be useful in some other way. However, they are designed only to generate revenue for their developers by serving advertisements, promoting certain addresses and/or collecting various information.

How did LogarithmicEntry install on my computer?

It is common that users download and/or install adware (and other types of PUAs) when they download and/or install programs that have it included in their setups as additional offers. This method to distribute potentially unwanted apps is called "bundling". It works when users download and/or install programs without changing "Custom", "Advanced" or other settings of setups, or without unticking certain checkboxes. By leaving such settings unchanged users agree with offers to download and/or install additionally included apps. In some cases unwanted downloads and/or installations can be caused by clicking deceptive ads that are designed to execute certain scripts.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

Software (and files) should be downloaded from official pages and through direct links. Third party downloaders, installers, Peer-to-Peer networks (like torrent clients, eMule, etc.), unofficial web pages, etc., should not be used neither to download or install any software. Download and installation setups that have checkboxes, "Advanced", "Custom" or other settings should be always checked for offers to download and/or install unwanted software. Advertisements that appear on various questionable websites can be designed to open untrustworthy websites or cause unwanted downloads, installations. It is advised not to click such ads as well. Any unwanted, suspicious extensions, add-ons, plug-ins that are installed on a browser should be uninstalled from it. The same applies to software of this kind that is installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with LogarithmicEntry, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
