How to remove AnalyticParameter adware from Mac?
What is AnalyticParameter?
AnalyticParameter is an adware-type application with browser hijacker traits. Following successful installation, it runs intrusive advertisement campaigns and makes modifications to browser settings - in order to promote fake search engines. AnalyticParameter promotes d2sri.com on Safari browsers and search.locatorunit.com - on Google Chrome browsers. Additionally, most adware-types and browser hijackers spy on users' browsing activity. Due to the questionable methods used to distribute AnalyticParameter, it is also classified as a PUA (Potentially Unwanted Application). One of the dubious techniques used for this app is distribution via fake Adobe Flash Player updaters. Furthermore, it is noteworthy that illegitimate software updaters/installers are employed to proliferate not only PUAs but also trojans, ransomware and other malware as well.
Adware delivers pop-ups, banners, coupons, surveys and other intrusive advertisements. They overlay webpage content and slow down the browsing speed. Additionally, once clicked on, intrusive adverts redirect to various untrustworthy/malicious websites and some can even stealthily download/install software (e.g. PUAs). Browser hijackers reassign browsers' homepage, default search engine and new tab/window URLs - to the addresses of fake web searchers. Hence, with such a piece of software installed: every single search query typed into the URL bar and new browser tab/window opened - redirect to the promoted address. In case of AnalyticParameter, it either redirects to d2sri.com (Safari) or to search.locatorunit.com (Google Chrome). Fake search engines are usually unable to provide search results, so they redirect to (or cause redirection chains ending with) Yahoo, Bing, Google and other legitimate ones. Browser hijackers can reset any changes users attempt to make to their browsers and/or restrict/deny access to the browser's settings outright. Most PUAs also have data tracking abilities. They can monitor browsing activity (URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries typed, etc.) and collect personal information extracted from it (IP addresses, geolocations and other details). The collected data is then shared with and/or sold to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals). In summary, presence of unwanted software on devices can lead to system infections, financial losses, serious privacy issues and even identity theft. To ensure device and user safety, all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins must be removed without delay.

CommonGeneration, OptimalState and ExpandedCommand are a few examples of other adware-type apps. They appear legitimate and offer various "handy" functionalities. However, the advertised features are seldom operational. In fact, this applies to practically all PUAs. The sole purpose of unwanted software is to generate revenue for the developers. Therefore, instead of delivering on any promises, PUAs can run intrusive advert campaigns, hijack browsers, cause redirects and gather private data.
How did AnalyticParameter install on my computer?
PUAs are distributed via download/installation setups of other programs. This deceptive marketing technique of pre-packing regular software with unwanted or malicious additions - is called "bundling". Rushed download/installation processes (e.g. ignored terms, used "Easy/Express" settings, etc.) - increase the risk of inadvertently allowing bundled content into the system. Select PUAs have "official" download webpages. Upon being clicked on, intrusive ads can execute scripts to download/install these applications without user consent.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
It is recommended to research software before download/installation and/or purchase. All downloads must be done from official and verified sources. Untrustworthy channels, e.g. unofficial and free file-hosting websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks and other third party downloaders - commonly offer deceptive and/or bundled content. When downloading/installing, it is important to read terms, explore all available options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out from additional apps, tools, features, etc. Intrusive advertisements appear legitimate, however they redirect to various unreliable and questionable sites (e.g. gambling, adult-dating, pornography, and so on). In case of encounters with adverts and/or redirects of this kind, the system must be inspected and all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins detected - immediately removed from it. If your computer is already infected with AnalyticParameter, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
