It is common that users download and install browser hijackers inadvertently, therefore, apps of this type are categorized as potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).
Browser hijacker is a type of app that promotes address of a fake search engine by making it as the address of a default search engine, homepage and new tab. AllStreamSearch changes these browser settings to allstreamsearch.com so that users would visit it when they enter search queries into URL bar, open a browser or new tab. Search engines that are promoted by browser hijackers are called fake because they do not generate unique results. In most cases users can remove address of a fake search engine from browser settings only when a browser hijacker that is designed to promote it is no linger installed on a browser. As mentioned in the introduction, AllStreamSearch is capable of accessing information related to user's browsing habits. Typically, browser hijackers target details like IP addresses, geolocations, addresses of visited pages, entered search queries, and/or other details of this kind. Nevertheless, there are browser hijackers that can access sensitive, personal details as well. This could cause users problems related to online privacy, web browsing safety, some users could even become victims identity theft.

How did AllStreamSearch install on my computer?
Sometimes users cause unwanted downloads and/or installations through deceptive ads - by clicking ads that are designed to execute certain scripts. Although, in most cases users download and/or install PUAs together with other programs - when PUAs are included in download and/or installation setups of those programs as additional offers. This distribution method is called "bundling". As a rule, offers to download and/or install PUAs are can be declined via "Advanced", "Custom", "Manual" or other settings of setups, or via available checkboxes. When users do not check and change those settings (or untick certain checkboxes), they allow for integrated PUAs to be downloaded and/or installed too.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Download and/or installation setups that have "Custom", "Advanced" or other settings should be checked for offers to download and/or install unwanted software. All software (and files) should be downloaded from official websites and via direct links. Sources, tools like Peer-to-Peer networks (e.g., torrent clients, eMule), unofficial websites, third party downloaders, etc., should not be used. Third party installers should not be used too. Advertisements that are displayed on shady websites should not be clicked - more often than not such ads are designed to open untrustworthy websites. In some cases they can be designed to cause a download or even installation of unwanted software. Unwanted, suspicious extensions, add-ons or plug-ins that are installed on a browser should be removed. Software of this kind that is installed on the operating system should be uninstalled as well. If your computer is already infected with AllStreamSearch, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
