How to remove unwanted apps that promote muhamm.space

Also Known As: Ads by muhamm.space
Damage level: Medium

What is muhamm[.]space?

Generally, users do not visit websites such as muhamm[.]space intentionally - they are opened by browsers automatically when they have potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) installed on them.

They are classified as PUAs because, in most cases, users download and install them unintentionally. Some examples of pages that are similar to muhamm[.]space (and are often promoted by PUAs) include tutupdate29[.]com, tecontrad[.]top and psalrausoa[.]com.

muhamm[.]space pop-up redirects

Typically, pages such as muhamm[.]space contain dubious content or open about two or three other untrusted sites. Note that PUAs generally open these sites in a new browser window or tab.

Like most pages of this kind, muhamm[.]space attempts to trick visitors into clicking the "Allow" button using a 'clickbait' technique - this allows the sites to show their notifications. In this case, muhamm[.]space suggests that users can continue navigating it by clicking the button. If allowed, muhamm[.]space shows notifications that contain dubious ads, links to other bogus pages, etc.

Furthermore, PUAs often promote/open untrusted sites and collect data. For example, IP addresses, entered search queries, geolocations, addresses of visited websites, other browsing-related details, and, in some cases, even personal, sensitive data.

The data might be sold to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) or misused to generate revenue in other ways. In such cases, users could encounter problems relating to privacy and browsing safety, and become victims of identity theft.

Additionally, PUAs serve ads such as coupons, pop-ups, surveys, and banners. If clicked, these can open dubious websites or execute scripts that download and install other PUAs.

Browsers that open pages such as muhamm[.]space often have PUAs installed on them. Most PUAs are useless and designed only to generate revenue for the developers (despite this, the apps are often advertised as useful and legitimate).

PUAs should never be trusted and removed from browsers and computers.

How did adware install on my computer?

Unwanted downloads and installations often occur when developers distribute PUAs by integrating them into the download/installation setups of other programs as "extra offers". This distribution method is known as "bundling".

The offers can be declined in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings of the setups (or by unticking certain checkboxes). Many users fail to check and change these settings (or untick the checkboxes), thereby allowing PUAs to infiltrate together with the desired software.

PUAs are also downloaded and installed by clicking deceptive advertisements (usually on untrusted sites) that execute certain scripts.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

You are advised to research all software before download/installation. Use only official and verified download channels. Unofficial and free file-hosting websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks (BitTorrent, Gnutella, eMule), and other third party downloaders commonly offer harmful and bundled content, and are therefore untrusted and should be avoided.

When downloading/installing, read the terms, study all possible options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out of additional apps, tools, features, and so on. Intrusive advertisements typically seem legitimate, however, they can redirect to dubious and malicious sites (e.g. gambling, pornography, adult-dating, and many others).

If you encounter ads or redirects of this kind, inspect the system and remove all dubious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins immediately.

If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
