StreamsSearchWeb browser hijacker removal instructions
What is StreamsSearchWeb?
StreamsSearchWeb is a potentially unwanted application (PUA) that hijacks browsers by changing some of their settings to the streamssearchweb.com address. In other words, it promotes a fake search engine. Apps like StreamsSearchWeb are called PUAs because most of the times they are being downloaded and installed by users unknowingly. It is worthwhile to mention that quite often such apps not only change browser's settings but also gather browsing-related data.
StreamsSearchWeb promotes streamssearchweb.com by making it as the address of a default search engine, homepage and new tab. In other words, its purpose is to make users visit that address when they enter search queries into URL bar, open a browser or new tab. Streamssearchweb.com is a fake search engine because it redirects users to search.yahoo.com - it displays results generated by Yahoo. It is worthwhile to mention that users of browsers that are hijacked by apps like StreamsSearchWeb can remove address of a fake search engine from browser's settings only when that app is no longer installed. Therefore, streamssearchweb.com can be removed only after removal of the StreamsSearchWeb app.
Furthermore, it is likely that StreamsSearchWeb collects IP addresses, geolocations, entered search queries, addresses of visited pages, and/or other browsing data as well. However, in some cases apps of this type gather sensitive data too. The problem with it is that collected information could be monetized by selling it to parties (potentially cyber criminals) or in other ways. It means that users of browser hijackers are at risk to encounter issues related to online privacy, browsing safety, or even become victims of identity theft.

SearchConverterBox, DailySportSearch and Easy Searching App are a couple examples of other apps that are classified as browser hijackers. It is worthwhile to mention that in most cases apps of this type are advertised as useful, they supposed to improve browsing experience, include some features, provide quick access to certain websites, etc. Although, most of them are useless to their users and designed only to generate revenue for their developers.
How did StreamsSearchWeb install on my computer?
Sometimes users unknowingly download and/or install PUAs by clicking deceptive advertisements that are designed to execute certain scripts. Although, in most cases they download and/or install PUAs alongside with programs that have those apps included in their download and/or installations setups as extra offers. This distribution method for PUAs is called "bundling". When users finish downloads and/or installations of programs without checking (and changing) settings like "Custom", "Advanced", or unticking certain checkboxes, they download and/or install offered PUAs too.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
It is advised not to finish any download or installation process without checking "Custom", "Advanced and other similar settings of a download and/or installation setup and declining offers to download and/or install unwanted apps. Also, it is recommended to download files, programs only from official websites and using direct download links. Other sources, tools like third party downloaders (and installers), Peer-to-Peer networks (e.g., torrent clients, eMule) should not be used. Ads on pages related to pornography, adult dating, gambling (and other dubious sites) should not be clicked as well. It is common that such ads are designed to promote other shady pages or even cause unwanted downloads, installations. Unwanted, suspicious extensions, add-ons, or plug-ins that are installed on web browser and/or programs of this kind that installed on the operating system should be removed. If your computer is already infected with StreamsSearchWeb, we recommend running a scan with Malwarebytes for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
